Stallions move to Round 2
Like all Stallion/Lightning hook-ups, this nail-biter delivered, featuring stellar pitching performances from both Jack Sanchez and Jr. Esparza. Sanchez, back to form, surrendered just one run through a strong five innings. The Lightning, benefiting from a bobbled double play, finally broke through in the 6th. Jr. came in and struck out Coop, gave up a run scoring base hit to the ever-dangerous Gaines, then struck out Cooley. Lightning pitcher Bobby Berry bounded back nicely from a shoulder injury in his strong complete game effort. The battle finally broke with a bottom of the ninth lead off single from Jr. Esparza, followed by his nephew Sal's walk-off ribbie shot to deep left. Jr. went 5-5 on the day with 4 RBI and struck out 7 in his 3 2/3 innings to take the victory. Chambers and Corralles both had a multi-hit game, while Berry, Nicholson and Small gathered 3 hits a piece.
