Condors Hang On To Reach Finals
The Condors defeat a very tough Bucs team to advance to the championship game. Jay smith goes the distance and goes 2-5 at the plate. With the Condors up 8-0 in the 4th, the Bucs launch their offense and score 5 runs. However, the Condors kept their distance, always staying ahead by 3 runs, even though the Bucs added 4 more before they were through. The strong arms, of the Bucs outfielders, kept the Condors from getting a big lead. The Bucs used 4 pitchers. Well, actually 3 as Cesar Vargas, who started the game, came back in to close the game. The Bucs pitchers walked 9 Condors batters, which is a few too many for a playoff game. For the Condors, leadoff batter Joe Blink scores 4 runs. John Scott had the big bat, going 4-5 with 4 rbis.
Art Pielli goes 3-3, in addition to 2 BBs, reaching base in all 5 ABs. For his reward, Art will be spending Sunday night in the hospital (for observation) after a 9th inning collision on the base paths, leaves him with a concussion. Matt Wilburn, the Bucs catcher, was also hauled off the field after a collision at the plate. Hopefully, both players will have a speedy recovery. The Glendale field was a nice field to play on as a Glendale firefighter was there, and on the field in 60 seconds to check on Art, immediately after the collision, and to recommend an ER visit.
