Depleted Angels Defeat the Depleted Brewers
Forced to play Christmas weekend, both teams were missing a number of players. This was a pitcher's battle from the start. Both Joe Pita and Jess Whitehill pitched great games. Jess pitched his way out of 3 bases loaded jams. The game was tied in the 5th, when Jess sac bunted a runner to 2B. Then, with 2 out, back-to-back doubles by Art Lacher and Charles Blakey gave the Angels a 2 run lead. In the 7th, Jess, who had singled and moved to 3B, scored on a sac fly by Blakey, for his 2nd RBI. This is in addition to CB throwing a strike from center field to cut down a runner trying to score , from 2B on a single. Both teams played good defense with, remarkably, few errors. Dirk DeTrou adds a run, on 2 hits, 2 stolen bases and turns an inning ending double play, with the bases loaded, at SS.
