Brewers Take Championship on Pita's Arm and Bat

The Brewers and Sharks, who hadn't faced each other in the rain-shortened season, finally got the chance in today's Championship game. Joe Pita, the Brewers' ace, threw a complete game, 6-hit, no-walk shutout. In leading the Brewers to a 10-0 victory, he was also a perfect 4-4 at the plate, with two doubles and five RBIs. Raul Verdecia, the Brew Crew's steady centerfielder, was also perfect, going 5-5. Mateo Valadez and Andrew Pelter each contributed two hits. And Efrain Medrano, the Brewers' shortstop provided a number of webgems, including a Jeter-like, in-the-hole, leaping-quarterback throw to first to rob the Sharks' John Dailey of a sure single. Hats off to the Sharks, a good team, whom the Brewers were glad to face on an off-day.
