Gillaspy trots home on Clewell's walk off to beat Fort!

Defending champion Roslyn looked shaky allowing 3 runs in the first 2 innings against Fort Washington. A combination of fielding errors, walks and hits batsman gave Fort an early 3-0 lead on only 1 earned run.

But, the turning point came in the top of the 4th inning after a Weinberg single and an error on a bunt landed Fort runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out! Roslyn changed the line up for obvious defensive reasons putting pitcher Brian Close on first, moving Poppert to third and Janoson into pitch! Roslyn brought the infield in to cut down the run at the plate and it worked beautifully! Forts leadoff hitter hit a sharp line drive that was snagged by 2nd baseman Matt Close who made a snap throw to Poppert at 3rd catching the runner off base and Poppert tagged the advancing runner from 2nd to complete the triple play!

After a 1,2,3 bottom half and shutting Fort out in the top 5th the fired up Blue Hawks came alive! Janoson led off the bottom of the frame with a double to center, hot hitting Zach Nikander followed with a double of his own plating Danny baseball! Yerkes' infield singled pushed Nikander over to third who scored on Brian Closes single to right! The score stood tied at the end of 5 innings!

Then Danny Janoson went to work striking out 3 and allowing only one base runner over the next 2 innings who catcher Yerkes' proceded to throw out stealing!

In the bottom 7th, Dom Gillaspy pinch hit for Brian Close and stroked a leadoff double to right field, setting the stage for the top of Roslyns order! After Horn poped a bunt up for an out, Matt Close walked on 4 pitches. Bobby Heck came to the plate, fooled most of the night by Forts pitcher and drove a shot to right only to hook foul. Next pitch he grounded to deep short and beat out the throw for a bases loading infield single. Chris Clewell strode to the plate, took the first pitch for a strike, fouled off the next, then another! Next pitch he clubbed the longest single of his life, only because it sent Gillaspy home for a walkoff win and there is joy in Mudville!!
