Sharks top Fleming Island 57-46 Ponte Vedra earned their fifth victory in a row on the season with a 59-46 victory over Fleming Island on the Sharks home court. The win makes amends for a road loss to the Islanders last season as the Sharks look to make it six in a row tonight when they travel to St. Augustine to take on St. Joseph. It looked like the Sharks would coast to an easy victory as they notched the game’s first 10 points before Fleming Island could answer. Ponte Vedra squandered a 10 point first quarter lead as the visitors made a nice run of their own to begin the second quarter. A full court press by the Golden Eagles rattled the Sharks, forcing 9 PVHS turnovers as they scored the first 11 points in the stanza before the Sharks could settle down and answer back. Fleming Island took a brief 1-point lead over the hosts early into the second half before the Sharks took charge led by the play of Sophomore Nathan Bunkosky and Junior Luke Pirris. Bunkosky led all scorers with 19 tallies while Pirris added 18. Pirris also added 6 steals to his stat line as well as posting a perfect 12-12 mark from the free throw line.
