Playing our first game as a team we weren't sure what to expect, but this outcome will do. I thought the boys played well in all three zones and we controlled the play almost the entire game. We generated 57 shot attempts on goal, 40 that got to the net, and only allowed 6 against. The first period SHD hung with us because their goaltender was sharp and our shots were mostly right at his chest or pads. Mackey got our only goal in the first period, and even though we dominated play in the first period we knew one mistake would give SHD a chance to get back in the game. We took complete control in the second period on goals from Picard (2), Fiore, Kaechelin, Mackey, and McDonough . After two we led 7-0 and the third period was running clock. We added two additional goals in the third, one each from Wilkins and Lindsey for the final 9-0 score. After the game going through the line the SHD coach said "your team was much better than we expected, you have a really solid team". Not really sure what he meant by that statement. Did he think we were going to have a weak squad? We have too many talented players to not be one of the better teams this season. This was just one game and because of the bizarre rules of this tournament it actually doesn't count toward the playoff picture. We have two very important games on Saturday against the NJ Devils and Team LCPD, which is the Little Caps summer team. We need to forget about this game and come out and play just as hard tomorrow to get one of the playoff spots. Overall, I thought the forecheck did a nice job jamming up their defensemen deep in their zone. Our defensemen did a good job holding the blue line to keep pucks alive, and in our end, we really didn't give them much room to operate or generate offensive chances. The few shots they did get our goaltenders were there to stop.
