What a great game to finish our weekend with. We jumped on them early scoring two first period goals, and working our forecheck to make it difficult for them to use their speed in the neutral zone as they did in the first game. The second period was a completely different game for us. We lost focus on the forecheck and continually allowed them to get the easy outlet pass along the walls and push the pace up the ice. Time after time, Valania saved our mistakes with some incredible saves, but even his outstanding goalkeeping couldn't halt the storm, and the Knights were able to tie the score 2-2. I between periods we talked about the importance of getting back on a positive note with our forecheck and more importantly getting pucks to the net with more consistency. We did a much better job with both early on. Around the 11:oo minute mark we were called for a bogus "Too Many Men" penalty by a linesman who was completely clueless the entire game. On the ensuing PP the Knights scored after an obvious pick play gave their shooter a clean look at our net for a goal. When I asked the ref about it, he just said, "Enough coach" and skated away. The boys were really flipping out on the bench, so it was more important to get them refocused than to argue a call that wasn't going to change. The boys stayed focused and just two shifts later Picard scored to even the game a three. The final minutes of this game were played with a really high level on intensity by our boys and a will to succeed that was really great to be a part of. The Knights scored off a turnover late in the period, but the team didn't give up. A penalty just seconds after the ensuing faceoff gave us a power play and a chance to tie the score. I gave serious thought to pulling the goalie with two minutes remaining in the game but didn't want the Knights to get a lucky goal off a clear while we still had a chance to tie the game five on four. After an offensive zone stoppage with just over a minute to play, I thought the time was right to add the sixth skater and it worked out perfectly. I put Jack McDonough out as the sixth man and he scored the goal to tie the score with fifty eight seconds to play. The end of the game and overtime was exciting, but neither team scored and the game ended in a tie. I would have liked to get both points, but the tie helps us in the standings. Really proud of the effort the boys put out. .
