Certainly not our best effort to start the game. I think we came in overconfident after our easy win last night and then when we scored early to take the 1-0 lead we seemed to lose focus. We gave up all four goals against in just over six minutes of play, and that was a hole too big to climb out of. I thought once we got down 4-1 we started playing better hockey but we just weren't taking enough shots. Too many players were trying to make plays that just weren't there and giving up the puck on bad turnovers. We kept telling the boys that the points were wide open for low to high plays, but the forwards just didn't move the puck fast enough or just didn't move it at all. Late in the second period we got a goal after moving the puck up to the point and Ethan Clark took a perfect low shot that beat the Devils goaltender to get the game to within two. In the third period we did a much better job getting pucks to the net, but the Devils goaltender made a few very nice saves to keep us down by two. With the goalie pulled and six skaters on the ice Cal LeClair scored to get us within one with 1:20 to play. The Devils took a penalty with 37 seconds to play and that gave us one last hope to tie the game. We had a few good opportunities down low but we were turned away and ran out of time. I honestly thought we outplayed the Devils over the final two periods but those six minutes at the end of the first and the beginning of the second sealed our fate. Tonight puts us in a must win position if we hope to make the playoffs. I believe we will likely need to win by a few goals to get a spot in the weekend playoffs.
