Possession Advantage Not Converted in Open Game DrawWarm mid-November weather greeted the teams in the 2006 Bethesda Premier Invitational held at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Maryland. The Chesapeake Bracket's Red Flight opened with the Yardley Makefield Soccer Speed Demons who were looking to avenge their loss at the 2005 Kirkwood Premier Tournament to the Blasters.
Commack immediately took control of the match with Liz having two strong chances in the opening minutes. In minute three, her shot from right forward was saved while she seemed to get pulled down in the box just three minutes later with no calls. The hard and very wide pitch, combined with the very short grass, made the field play like carpet with many high bounces during the first half. At halftime, it was noted that many of our possessions were only attacking on the right side, so the emphasis was on switching the ball during the second stanza. The field's width made switches all the more difficult although Commack did well to change the point of attack throughout the half. Defensively, Briana was strong from the right flank while Alyssa and Ashley control the central defense with LB covering the left side. The midfield saw more rotation than other positions given the field dimensions with Nicky and Meghan covering the central ground along with Gina in the second half. With two minutes remaining, Sara made a recovery save as one of those high bounces went over her head and she saved a ball at point blank range on the left post late in the match to preserve the clean sheet.
