Offense Surges in Second Half for Opening Round WinThe 2006 MAPS/MSSL Girls Winter College Showcase Tournament opened under cool, early December temperatures with a solid wind blowing at both Fort Dix and Bordentown for Saturday's Day One action. Powered by three second half goals, the Commack Blasters won their opening match, 3-1, over the Wall Power.
The first goal was credited to Saulty as her cross resulted in a Wall own goal for a 1-0 lead. The Power knotted the match at one goal each on a set piece from about twenty-five yards out. Commack countered with two closing scores as Gina fed Carly who scored on a header for a 2-1 lead. Minutes later, Carly hit Nicky with a pass that was scored for a 3-1 final score. After winning the opening round match with many chances, the Blasters moved from the poor conditions at Fort Dix to the Bordentown Friendship Fields.
