Three-Touch Possession Game Strategy Yields Third WinDay two opened under very bright, sunny skies and temperatures approaching ninety degrees. Commack concentrated on playing a three-touch possession game at every point in this match to conserve energy and parlayed that strategy into a 4-0 third game win in their South County Seaside Classic round-robin bracket.
Scoring opened early marking the importance of that first goal. Here, it was Katie Gradel serving Carly for a fourth minute goal and a 1-0 lead. In minute seventeen, Katie ripped one of the harder shots of the season from her right outside midfield position, calling off two players, to place the ball into the right upper ninety for a 2-0 lead which carried the action into the halftime break. Midway into the second, Alyssa stole a ball in the midfield from a Middletown central defender and counter-attacked on a breakaway. Her composed shot was threaded beneath the on-coming Middletown keeper from about twenty yards for a 3-0 Commack advantage. Katie put icing on the cake at 4-0 with two minutes remaining as Meredith's throw-in crossed the field untouched and was placed home. Defensively, the team played exceptionally well as the ball was constantly moving across the back in switching the field. Meghan was awesome with her hard marking efforts in the midfield reminding us of what was missing from our team with her early season surgery. Saulty worked very hard on top and on the outside during the contest. Ashley was rested in this match in anticipation of the final game. Stephanie Speirs recorded her third clean sheet of the weekend while Katie Gradel guested with the team and picked up an assist in the match.
