Familiar Sides Face Off in Third Place Group Play FinaleDay three of the 2007 PDA Girls College Showcase is the playoff day and this year, the Commack Blasters faced off against the East Islip Impact at the Rutgers University Werblin Turf Fields, home of the Scarlet Knights Women's Soccer Team. Under humid, cloudy skies, the Impact connected on a second half set piece to take the match, 1-0.
During the first half, the Blasters played faultless defense in front of Diane who notched the clean sheet. The Blasters best scoring chance in the opening stanza came on a perfect cross from Carly who rolled a ball through the six yard box that could not be netted by the right side attack. With second half legs starting to give way after three days of competition, the Impact scored in the fifteenth minute on a corner kick that was rattling in the box and not cleared. In the closing dozen minutes, the Blasters played a pressured 4-3-3 attack including a break-in by Saulty that was poked left footed without hitting the net in a great effort. Despite the pressure, the time expired with East Islip taking the 1-0 decision. While the curtain came down on the 2007 PDA Event, the entire Blasters core together with Amanda and Rebecca played with great heart and effort.
