Perfect Four-For-Four Record Secures Seaside ChampionshipThe Commack Blasters won the Fifteenth Annual South County Seaside Classic with a 2-1 win over the Shenentaha Premier Mad Dogs from the Northeast Regional League. The win completed a perfect four win weekend which featured thirteen goals-for and one goal-against.
This match's field was relatively small and had peculiar slopes towards opposite corner flags in addition to a tree line which hung over one part of the field. The tight field conditions turned one-touch passing into an advantage and Commack was moving the ball well from the back, but Shenentaha did play a physical style taking the game to the half without any scoring. At points, Shenentaha was playing six players behind the ball and only looking for counter attacking chances in the opening stanza. Fourteen minutes elapsed in the second half when Carly broke the deadlock fed by Meghan for a 1-0 advantage. A keeper switch for Shenentaha followed and in the next minute, Meghan's well struck shot went into the left side netting for a 2-0 lead. With ten minutes remaining, a Shenentaha left striker placed a well-arched ball into the right side netting over Sara's head to close the gap to 2-1, but that is how the game went to the final whistle. Accolades to all of our players as we closed the GU/16 season with this tournament win and look forward to bringing everyone back healthy in August. Enjoy the six week summer break!
