Twenty-One College Coaches See Opening WAGS MatchWhen the Commack Blasters were accepted to the WAGS Premier "A" Flight, the letter writing campaign started and more than twenty college coaches responded for this 8:30am match. Each registered with our team parents to receive a copy of our team profile at the Muldoon Farms Fields prior to the match and all were treated to an excellent game under unusually sunny and warm conditions.
Although scoreless to the half, the Blasters seemed in control of the contest on both the offensive and defensive sides. Possession play was the rule of the day and all fifteen Blasters attending this event were on top of their game. The defensive unit including Liz, Jen, LB, and Alyssa kept the Dallas attack away from the net helping Sara to record the first half clean sheet. Ashley came to play in the second half as a perfectly threaded through ball in the third minute resulted in a break-in against the Dallas keeper. Her sprawling save kept the game scoreless. That tie was broken in the fifteenth minute as a Dallas striker dribbled around our keeper Stephanie who came out to challenge the play. A well executed cross by Dallas doubled that lead in the twenty-third minute. Despite the deficit, Commack continued to control the pace and action. After the match, the coach of Providence approached the coaching staff and said that the scoreline was an unkind result for the quality of our play. Attending this opening match were coaches from St. John's, Georgetown, NJIT, Western Carolina, James Madison, Navy, Providence, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Drexel, Florida State, West Virginia, Emory, Loyola, Tennessee and LIU.
