Second Win Secures Six Point Group Play PerformanceThe Commack Blasters started the second day at the 2007 East Meadow Covanta Cup Tournament knowing that qualifying for the Wildcard Playoff spot would require a win in their final group play game and a sequence of losses and/or ties in the other brackets to allow their possible six points to stand up. Since ties littered the other two brackets, the possibility was good, but first thing was the game at hand. Field conditions were attrocious at Mitchel Field's Field B with many ruts in the pitch. Weather was warm, humid, and overcast throughout the match.
Scoring opened in the fifth minute as Katie hit Ashley who in turn passed to Saulty. Her shot opened the scoring at 1-0. The lead doubled in the ninth minute as Saulty repeated the play, this time served by Meghan, for a 2-0 lead that would stand through halftime. Sara opened the game recording the clean sheet. Second half action saw both keepers record clean sheets as Stephanie continued her perfect goals-against record for Commack. With the second win, the Blasters completed group play at 2W-1L-0T recording two clean sheets on the way to 3 goals-for and 2 goals-against. As it turned out, a Mamaroneck Panthers upset over the East Meadow Shooting Stars in Bracket 3 together with a Stonybrook Xtreme loss to the Patriots 89/90 in Bracket 2 placed the Commack Blasters into the tournament semifinals.
