Late Game Goal Wins Match and Seals Bracket ChampionshipDay two of the CASL Raleigh Shootout dawned with a 10:10am matchup between the strong Colorado Storm North Copa and the Commack Blasters. A seventy-fifth minute goal by Saulty from Meredith was the deciding factor in this 1-0 contest.
Approximately fifty coaches, more than our day one contest, ringed the pitch and were treated to an excellent game between east coast and west coast styles. A tremendous defensive effort allowed our two keepers to share the clean sheet, our second of this showcase tournament. Colorado opened the second half with an interesting kickoff which was played fifty yards downfield and bounced over the crossbar. This win was combined with an MSC Santos win over the Virginia Nike Rush and a Colorado vs. Rush opening game tie to give the Commack Blasters the CASL Raleigh Shootout bracket championship before Sunday's games were played. Colleges attending this game included Wake Forrest, Rhodes College, Jacksonville, Highpoint, University of Alabama Birmingham, Kansas, Minnesota State, Lee University, Avery, Saint Francis, Ohio State, Cornell, Coastal Carolina, Carnegie Mellon, University of Michigan, Kennon College (Ohio), Florida, Wheaton, Old Dominion University, Washington University, South Dakota State, University of North Florida, Rollins, Miami, Colgate, Bucknell, UNC Wilmington, Allegheny, Salem, Colorado, Northwestern, College of Charleston, Georgetown, Samford, Yale, Stonybrook, Univ. of Louisiana – Lafeyette, Providence, and Wellesley.
