Rain and Field Conditions Suspend Match at HalftimeRains came earlier than expected to open day two at the 2008 National Elite Women's Soccer Showcase and by the start time for another renewal of the Rockville Centre versus Commack rivalry, field conditions were already compromised.
Rockville Centre scored in the opening two minutes as a crossing ball was headed onto the far post for a 1-0 advantage. The Blasters responded as Tori crossed a well played ball to Saulty who played the shot to the left post to equalize the score in the fifteenth minute. Just two minutes later, Rockville Centre scored a second time as a ball wound its way through the defense and scored into the upper right side ninety. Rain continued to fall and as more girls were slipping and sliding, chances became fewer and fewer for both sides. Caroline made a wonderful punch save over the cross bar with just seconds remaining in the half. Field marshalls made the decision to close all grass fields at Mitchel at 10:15am for the remainder of the tournament. The Blasters closed their top bracket appearance at 1W-2L-0T (3 points) in the abbreviated tournament. Consolation matches were not played in the showcase. Colleges represented at this game included Hofstra, SUNY/Purchase, SUNY/Brockport, Rider, University of Vermont, SUNY/Albany, Dartmouth, and St. Lawrence.
