Gnats Open 2008 Season with a Win
May 4, 2008 - 10:00 PM --  The Gnats opened the 2008 Lake and Pine season with a win over the Red Eye Countryboys in a game at Stigman Field.

As many fans noticed, the Gnats have a few new players suiting up for them this year. Three of these players were making their debute in a Gnats uniform, and what a debute it was.

Jake Sumner put together one of the best first games as a Gnat in recent memory. Sumner recorded 3 innings on the hill while striking out 2, allowing no hits, and no runs and earning the win. At the plate he was 1-1 with a single and a walk.

Dylan Shequen made his first appearance in a Gnats uniform as well, and recorded his first hit and RBI in the same at-bat.

Justin Kinnunen suited up for the Gnats for the first time, and also his first appearance in a Lake and Pine game. He walked twice, and displayed his speed on the basepaths while stealing 2nd and 3rd.

Doug Shequen returned to the Gnats after not wearing the maroon and gold for a few years. Doug pitched a scoreless ninth inning to help the Gnats slam the door.

The Gnats proved to be very selective at the plate while walking 10 times during the course of the game. They scored their 9 runs on 9 hits and 3 Countryboy errors. The Gnats have a couple home games this weekend as they square off with the Bemidji Mudcats in a noon game on Saturday, and a 1:30 league game against the Wolf Lake Wolf Pack on Sunday at Stigman Field. Come on out and enjoy the nice weather and take in a game. Don't forget to swing in to J&J's Bar and Grill after the game for some strips and wedges or a burger.
