Hawks Win July 4th Battle Against Spooner 5-4

In a league battle on the 4th of July, the Hawks downed the Spooner Cardinals 5-4. The Hawks rallied in the 7th inning scoring 3 runs to pull ahead 5-4 with back-to-back doubles by Kyle Gajewski and Gunnar Hansen. Jonah Sande entered the game in relief for starting pitcher Nate Harrison in the 7th inning, earning the victory. The victory now has the Hawks on a 3-game winning streak. The Hawks will be back in action on 7/11 in a road doubleheader against Cumberland Islanders.


Hawks to Host Annual Tournament This Weekend

The Hayward Hawks will be hosting the John Moreland and Brett Briggs Memorial Tournament this weekend at Larry Sommerville Field. The tournament will consist of two, three-team pools with the top two teams from each pool advancing to Sunday's semi-finals and finals. Tournament play begins on Friday night with the Hayward Hawks taking on the Cadott Red Sox at 6 pm Friday night. The Hawks will then play the Menomonie Eagles at 7 pm on Saturday night. The other pool will consist of the reigning champion Hartford Hawks, Eau Claire Bears, and the Brill Millers.


Hawks Take Two of Three in Weekend Action

The Hawks won two out of three games in action last Friday and Saturday nights.

Friday they defeated the Knights in Haugen 5-3. Saturday they split a doubleheader against the Cumberland Islanders at Larry Somerville Field. They dropped the first game 4-1, but came back to take the nightcap 8-1.

The Hawks next scheduled game is Wednesday night against the Twin Ports Timbers at Duluth's historic Wade Stadium.


Hawks Host Cumberland in Saturday Doubleheader

HAYWARD -- The Cumberland Islanders come to town for a Saturday evening doubleheader at Larry Somerville Field. The first game starts at 5 pm.


Tonight's Game Canceled

HAYWARD -- Tonight's scheduled game against the Duluth Timbers has been canceled. Duluth did not have enough players that would make the trip.


Hawks Celebrate Independence Day with Win over Cardinals

HAYWARD -- The Hawks thrilled the home crowd at Larry Somerville Field with a late-inniing rally to defeat the rival Spooner Cardinals 10-3.

The Hawks rallied for 2 runs in the sixth and three in both the seventh and eight innings, erasing a 3-2 Spooner lead.

Matt Flesher led the twelve-hit attack as he drove in five runs. Phil Zeigle, Dawson Jorczak and Micah Bacon added two hits each.

Starter Jonah Sande allowed three runs, two earned over his six innings. Nate Harrison pitched three scoreless innings, striking out nine, to get the save.

The win avenged a 6-4 loss at the hands of the Cardinals back on June 20th.


Hawks Blank Knights, Await Cardinals

HAYWARD -- Tom Danczyk fanned 15 over seven innings as the Hawks shutout the Haugen Knights 7-0 Monday night. The game was a makeup of a raned out game last week.

The Hawks await the Spooner Cardinals who come to Larry Somerville Field Friday night for the traditional Independence Day game. The Cardinals are coming off of a 6-5 win over Brill last Saturday. It's the second meeting of the season for the Hawks and Cardinals. Spooner defeated the Hawks 6-4 earlier this season.


HAYWARD -- tonight's game between the Hayward Hawks and the Haugen Knights has been postponed by rain.

The Hawks next game will be Saturday at Cumberland against the Cumberland Islanders. Game tins is 1 pm.


Hawks Host Haugen Knights in Independent League Play

HAYWARD -- The Hawks continue their stretch of Independent League play Wednesday night when the Haugen Knights come to Larry Somerville Field.

The Hawks split a pair of league games last weekend, losing to Spooner 6-4 Friday night and geting a 7-6 walk-off win Saturday night against Brill. The Hawks are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.

It is the second meeting for the Hawks and nights. Back on June 7th the Hawks opened the season with a 10-0 win at Haugen.

 


Jorczak's Home Run Sends Hawks to their Tournament Winner's Bracket

Dawson Jorczak's walk-off, three-run home run gave the Hawks a 10-9 victory over Holmen in the opening game of the five-team tournament Friday night. Trailing 9-7 with two men on Holmen brought on reliever Andrew Fischer to face Jorczak who promptly crushed the first pitch over the centerfield for the win.

The victory completed  comeback victiry from a 9-0 Holmen lead after four innings. The Hawks took a sizeable chunk out of that lead sending nine batters to the plate in a seven-run rally in the fifth inning. Trent Kirkland's two-run double highlighted the rally.

Phil Zeigle got the win in relief.

The win sends the Hawks to the 6pm game Saturday night against the winner of Saturday's 10 am game between Spooner and Eau Claire. Holmen plays the loser of that game at 2pm. All the action is at Larry Sommerville Field.


Hawks Five-Team Tournament Starts Friday Night

The Hawks Host Spooner, Holmen, Hartford and Eau Claire in their annual tournament that begins Friday night and runs through Sunday afternoon at Larry Sommerville Field.

The Hawks open the competition Friday night at 7:30 when they take on Holmen. Play continues Saturday morning at 10 am as Spooner takes on Eau Claire then Hartford takes on the Spooner/Eau Claire winner at 2 pm. It's a double elimination event.

The semifinals are at noon Sunday with the championship game at 2 pm. all games are seven innings.

Hayward Golf Course is the prize sponsor for Friday night. Angler's Bar and Grill be be the prize sponsors for Saturday.
