West Allegheny Slow Pitch Tryouts for Varsity/Jr Varsity/Jr High

August 11-12 – 10:00 AM
The West Allegheny Slow Pitch Softball Club is accepting registrations for tryouts for fall softball in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League (WPISL). Tryouts will be held August 11th and 12th at 10am at Oakdale Boro Park in Oakdale PA.

Tryouts are for girls entering 7th-12th grade who attend the West Allegheny school district. The club plays at 3 levels , Varsity, (grades 9-12) , JV (grades 9-11), and Junior High (grades 7-9). Games are played on Saturday and Sunday which start in early September thru the end of October. Each game is a double header usually playing 14 games, with playoffs for the Varsity only.

Some of the schools involved are Montour, Fort Cherry, Bethel Park, NA, Seneca Valley, Shaler, Fox Chapel, North Hills, etc. This is a highly competitive league which produces some great softball at a tournament level of play. This sport is now recognized by the West Allegheny School District with a place in the year book and on college transcripts. West Allegheny won the Varsity championship in 2009 in WA’s first season and took 1st place in Jr. High play in 2011.

Congratulations Oakdale 10U slow pitch tournament team winning their 3rd championship in 3 tournaments defeating new rival Elliott 19-6. Oakdale for the 3rd time came out of the #2 seed to defeat an undefeated #1 seed. Oakdale defeated Mt Washington 11-5 and Carrick 22-9 before losing to Elliott 18-14 in the preliminary round. In the playoff round Oakdale beat Mt Washington in the semi finals before defeating Elliott in the championship.

                               

Congratulations Oakdale 10u slow pitch, champions of the Elliott Tournament. Oakdale went 2-1 in the pool play defeating Mt Washington 13-6 and Westwood 12-0 before losing to Elliott 13-9. Oakdale was the #2 seed in the playoff round and defeated Mt Washinton in the semi-finals 17-3 and went on to defeat Elliott 10-5 in the championship game.

                                      

Congratulations Oakdale 10u girls slow pitch on winning the Oakdale Tournament with a convincing 16-1 win over South Fayette in the championship game. Oakdale in the preliminary round started the tourney with an extra inning loss to Carrick 15-14, then went on to beat Mt Washington 15-0, and beat an Elliott team that was undefeated all year by a score of 13-9. Oakdale beat Elliott in the semi-final rematch 20-12 before winning the championship game against rival South Fayette 16-1.

Congratulations Oakdale 8u tournament team taking 2nd place in the Elliott Tournament by defeating Mt Washington in the semi-finals in a thrilling 18-17 win and then coming up just short in the championship 5-4 to Bauerstown.

                           

Congratulations Oakdale 8u softball taking 3rd place in the Greentree tournament with a come from behind extra innings win to take 3rd.

Congratulations to West Allegheny 12u slow pitch team CHAMPIONS of the Mt Washington Tournament with an exciting 11-10 come from behind win on the final at bat in the bottom of the 7th vs Trafford. WA trailed 9-4 in the bottom of the 5th and rallied to make it 9-7. They rallied again in the 6th to close the score to 10-9. WA got out of a bases loaded jam with Trafford's 4th hitter grounding out to end the top of the 7th. WA started with a single, scored the tying run on a triple and won on a sac fly to LF with the runner beating the throw to the plate. WA went undefeated in the tournament (5-0) beating Trafford, Mt Washington and Southside in the pool play games and beating Southside in the semi-final game before winning the championship against Trafford.

Congratulations West Allegheny 12U slow pitch team winning 3rd place in the Brentwood tournament. West Allegheny team was made up of mostly players from Oakdale and 4 from South Fayette. WA won the 3rd place consolation game with a 8-1 win over Mt Lebanon. WA was also involved in the highest scoring game ever at the field a 38-29 loss to Bethel Park.

Congratulations Sturgeon 8u boys winning the McCandless championship with an incredible extra inning come from behind victory. The team was half Oakdale and half McDonald players.

Sturgeon 8U All Stars won the Weirton Tournament Championhip with a combined team of half Oakdale and half McDonald players.

Congratulations to the Sturgeon 8u All-Stars for their 2nd place finish in the Burgettstown tournament. Sturgeon battled back in the championship game from an 11-2 deficeit to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th and take the game to extra innings. They surrendered 3 runs in the top of the 7th and ran out of outs in the bottom of the inning for a final score of 14-12. Sturgeon was 13-1 this tournament season winning two tournaments and taking second in Burgettstown. Overall, Sturgeon has a 28-1 record since the team was formed last year with 5 Championships and 1 runner up. Sturgeon consists of 1/2 Oakdale and 1/2 McDonald players.

Oakdale Youth League players are encouraged to come and join in the annual Oakdale Memorial Day Parade by meeting at Sils's at 9:30am on Monday May 28th. Candy will be provided to distribute to the crowd as we walk in the parade.

Please support our 5th annual Lenten Spaghetti Dinner/Bake Sale Fundraiser, which will be held Friday March 30th from 4pm - 8pm for a very inexpensive cost of $7 for adults and $4 for children (10 & under). Takeout will be available. Donated bake goods will be for sale and a Chinese auction/door prizes will be available.

Fundraisers such as this allow us to continue to have the low registration costs and distribute free hoodies every three years to all players. Feel free to forward this and tell your family, friends, and neighbors to come support the Oakdale Youth League.

Starting Sunday 1/8/12 and ongoing until 3/18/12, the Oakdale Youth League is hosting a BOYS winter training camp/clinic for FREE at the North Fayette Community Center (Library/Gym) every Sunday from 9am - 10:30am for 7-8 yr olds and 10:30am - 12:00 for 9-12 year olds. Please take advantage of this great program that the OYL is investing in to improve your skills.
