Hank Teel seals long term umpire deal with the RPSA!

March 3, 2005

Rumor has it (with the keyword being rumor) umpire Hank Teel has sealed a deal to exclusively umpire RPSA games in 2005. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but some inside sources said Bud Nips and an occasional 101 shot of tequilla were said to be the deal breakers.

Hank Teel has been with the RPSA as a player and an umpire for the life of the RPSA and there is no place anyone in this league would rather see Hank Teel than umpiring here in the RPSA in 2005

Proposed Field Changes Approved

March 8, 2005
At the RPSA meeting the other night some major changes were recommended to the league for a league vote. The key change re-arranging field dimensions including the pitchers mound, the infield and the base length.

All but one team manager, Bogie B boy, approved the measure. Bogie stated "I voted no because someone had to."

Other changes approved were
1. Make the infield large
2. Add drainage to the field
3. Relevel the entire field
4. Re-position home plate by moving it back and point it to the right a few degrees. This would hopefully take the new walkway in left field out of play a bit.

Welcome to the New RPSA Web Site

March 8, 2005

Welcome all to our new RPSA web site. We have upgraded our site to use the services of leagueLineup.com. They offer some significant improvements from the old site. Some key advantages are:

1. Full game by game player statistics, scores and recaps. Having the game by game stats allows usa to track leaders in each category daily, as long as we can get the stats updated in time.
2. A real time communication that would allow someone to leave a phone message from anywhere in the world and that message gets translated to a web file that gets posted on the site. Try it...
3. We can have team admins that can enter not just recaps but scores and stats for each game.
4. Recaps can have game photos posted with a picture.
5. A full image upload capability to house images of games, events and history of the RPSA.
6. We will still keep our current message board, even though this site has one... no reason to have 2...

I feel these features will enable us to not be tied down to 1 person, "ME", for future web site maintenance and in the event, GOD Forbid, something happens to me... the site will live one.

Enjoy, Whiz

Roster Moves... here's the deal!

April 1, 2005

Just forget the phrase 1/2 move. Wipe it out of your mind. It was Garo math and as much as we love Garo his math is something we just chose not to love. So the 1/2 move is gone.

Each roster can have a maximum of 28 players on it.
Each opening roster has to be posted by midnight on Friday April 15th.
Each team has 12 moves.
After the 15th you have 12 total moves for the season.

Example: When you add a player it counts as 1 move! Once your roster gets to 28, anytime you want to add a player, you must drop a player so your roster does not exceed 28-that would constitute 2 moves, 1 for the added player and 1 move for the dropped player.

It doesn't matter what your roster says or how many times you change it now. All that matters is the roster posted by the 16th. Get it? Got it? Good...

RPSA League Apologies

June 29, 2005

Dear league members, league sponsors, community members, visitors, and supporters of the RPSA Softball League,

The RPSA has been around for 30 years. Our league entered the Internet space age a few years ago with a web site. The internet put us in an empowering position to communicate important events, post infomration on our leagues history and to have fun with our current and retired league members.

A few times a year we write an article called "Diamond Dust". The article's purpose is to sum up recent events on and off the field. While we are supposed to remain unbiased in our positions when writing these news articles, having an opinion or editorial is where we are allowed to speak our mind.

Last week we might have abused that privilege.

In our commentary, we attempted to write a satire about one of our leagues teams and a general reference was made about a player, however not mentioning an individual person. While the point of our article was to bring a humorous perspective, the way it was perceived by some was no laughing matter.

We spoke to members of the community who claimed that many were outraged by the article.

We analyzed what was written and came to the conclusion that having the freedom to write articles on the internet... your are going to offend people no matter what you write.

Upon hearing how many community members were upset, we immediately began trying to put out the fire we had started. We removed the reference, checked all of our other past articles, made web changes, made phone calls and apologized.

Although visitors to our site did not find it funny, members of our league, who represent every race known to man, knew the reference to be an attempt at humor and found it funny, not offensive. We truly understand why visitors were upset yet we also realize that they are just not aware of who we really are.

That single mistake we made does not truly represent who we are... We are all close personal friends, we are all brothers of a large family. We share moments of life and death, marriages, breakups and children being born. We are there for each other in good and bad times. We share the passion and competitive spirit to continue to play the game of baseball/softball. We share common values and goals and have the utmost respect for each other and our league. We are here to preserve a league that has been around for 30 years and has seen thousands of members from around the tri-state area come and go and come and go again. Like any good family we have our ups and downs, we have our fun and serious moments but we never... ever... would intentionally harm another member of our league or disrespect any person or race regardless if they are a member or not.

It is unfortunate that our attempt at humor offended others, and for that single mistake we truly apologize to the RPSA members, the local community, our sponsors and web visitors. We used bad judgment and are reviewing our policy on posting articles in the future. We would hope that no one passes quick judgment on us as a whole or labels our league as an offensive representation of our local community due to this single incident. We feel we have been a major part of this community and continue to serve it both in and outside of the league. We hope that anyone who was offended can accept our sincere apology. 1st Annual RPSA - Gary Keshishian Memorial Softball Tournament

April 14, 2007

The Ridgefield Park Softball Association was proud to host the 1st Annual Garo Keshishian Memorial Softball Tournament. This benefit tournament was held to repair the Garo monument at Keshishian Field in Ridgefield Park and to begin to establish a scholarship in Garo's name for a graduating senior from RPHS.

It was the perfect day for softball at Keshishian Field, the weather was brisk yet comfortable and the field (thanks to the RP DPW) was in impeccable playing condition.  The first game featured the RPFD against Father & Son in a contest eventually won by Father & Son.  In game two, Team Cobra edged the Jackhammers in a more competitive matchup than the preceeding contest.  In game three the Budmen easily handled Father & Son invoking the mercy rule in the 5th inning.  The fourth game presented the most entertaining matchup to that point when the Guns took on the Cubans.  For the first time there was some uncertainty as to who might win a contest on this day, but in the end, it was the Guns winning by a comfortable margin.  Game five pitted one of the tourney favorite Vultures against the Jackhammers.  That was a 22-0 pounding.  Interestingly enough, the dirty birds didn't cover as the line was Birds -22.  In the days' most competitive contest, the Bulldogs pushed a run across in the bottom of the 7th to break a 10-10 tie and defeat the Longhorns.

In the semi-finals, the Vultures handled the Bulldogs and the Budmen edged a spirited Guns squad.  The final matchup was now set.  The filthy filthy Vultures vs The Men of Bud.  An early 1-0 lead held up for an inning or two before the Vultures decided to start smacking the ball around.  The Budmen held an 8-7 lead after six frames.  In the top of the 7th, the Budmen tacked on a few more with the game changing moment coming on a towering grand slam off the bat of long time RPSA great Joe Baroni.  The Budmen took a 7 run lead into the bottom of the 7th and that is how the game would end.  A solid performance by both teams.

All in all, a great day for the RPSA and for the memory of Garo.  Some of Garo's family came down and expressed their appreciation to the league and they are looking forward to the RPSA All-Star picnic scheduled for June 15th & 16th (more details to come).  Many thanks to all the teams and those who chipped in to make Saturday the success that it was.

It's that time of year again.  We will be opening the 2011 season Sunday, April 10th, at 12:pm.  The ever cordial, Anthony Perrone (TP), will  do, the voodoo, he does, soooo wellll, manning the grill for the day.  As usual, you can expect Ace to be parked next to the kegs so, GET THERE EARLY.
