Babe Ruth (13u) Division Rules

2021 Nisqually Basin Youth Baseball

To ensure each game goes smoothly, it is important to communicate some of the main rules to parents.  If parents understand what to expect during the game, they can better prepare their child for the season.  They will also be able to support you and model good sportsmanship.

Babe Ruth Division plays by all rules listed in the official Babe Ruth Rules and Regulations Book except as modified below.

  • Bases will be set at 80'
  • Pitcher's will pitch from a raised 8" mound set at 54' from home plate.
  • Only Board approved Managers and Coaches are allowed on the playing field.  managers can call parents onto the field at their discretion.
  • All games will consist of seven (7) innings.
  • If a game is ended because of weather or darkness it will be considered a complete game if five (5) innings have been completed or if the home team is ahead after 4 1/2 innings.
  • The 10-run rule is in effect after 5 innings.
  • A team must have eight (8) players from their own roster to play a game.  The 9th batter is an automatic out.
  • A team may pull up a maximum of two (2) players up from a team within our league at the next lower level only in order to have ten (10) players and only with the consent of the opposing coach and the substitute player's parent/guardian. The player shall not pitch and must be placed at the end of the batting order.  The player will not start unless it is required to field a complete the 9 player line up. At no time should a player miss any portion of their regular team's scheduled game to play for another team.
  • A runner must slide into any base if there is a play at that base (excluding 1st base). At home plate, a play is defined as within three feet from home plate.
  • A runner may not run out of a direct line to the base in order to initiate contact with an opposing player.
  • The catcher may block home plate only when they possess the baseball. If the catcher blocks the runner before he has the ball, the umpire may call the runner safe.
  • A runner will be called out if, in the umpire's opinion, there should have been a slide on the play.
  • Courtesy runners will be allowed for the pitcher and catcher of record. The courtesy runner will be the player that made the last out.
  • A manager shall attempt to use each player in the field for two innings and provide one at bat in a seven inning game.

·        In order to develop players it is necessary for players to regularly attend practices.  It is at the manager's discretion to allow players to play in the week’s game(s) if they miss practices.

  • All metal or composite bats used by players must be stamped with the BBCOR .50 or USA Baseball markings.
  • Wood bats may be used.
  • Metal cleats may be worn.

Pitching Regulations

·        Each coach is responsible for keeping accurate pitch count and making their score book available at all times and may be asked for a pitch count of players prior to the start of a game.

 ·        Each team will update the website with their players' pitch count within 24 hours after a game and prior to the start of their next game. Failure to do so will cause any player who pitched during that game to incur a mandatory 5 day rest period.

 ·        A pitcher must be removed when said pitcher reaches the limit for his/her division as noted below, but the pitcher may remain in the game at another position:

o  Babe Ruth Division--95 pitches per day

 ·        A pitcher must rest according to the following parameters:

o   If a player pitches 76 or more pitches in a game, two (2) calendar days rest must be observed.

o   If a player pitches 46-75 pitches in a game, one (1) calendar days rest must be observed.

o   If a player pitches 1-45 pitches in a game, no (0) calendar days rest is required.

Pitcher rest parameters are per game, not per day. A pitcher may only be used in a second game of the day if they did not exceed 45 pitches in their first game.

 ·        If a pitcher meets their maximum pitch count in the middle of a batter, the pitcher may finish that batter.

 ·        Once a pitcher leaves the pitcher's mound he/she is not allowed to return as a pitcher in that game.
