Here are some rule notes that were discussed at the meeting this past week. Please make sure all umpires are away of these items:

-Most important- it is an oversight in our bylaws that was not discovered until now, and will become a rule when we can make the official change, but for safety reasons effective immediately: Metal cleats are only allowed in 14U and 19U.

-Some umpires are not aware that the infield fly rule is in effect at the 12U level; it is.

-Every level has mercy and game run rules that may differ; our bylaws, which every coach should have a copy of, spell these out and should be followed. It is not up to the umpire's discretion.

-There was an instance when a dead ball was called mid-pitch, which should have stopped play, but the girl hit it anyway and the ump let the hit stand. As he called dead ball, none of the defense moved on the hit and as such were caught unaware. Once "dead ball" is called, the ball is dead and play stops, even if the pitch is delivered and the hitter reactively hits the ball.

Thanks to everyone who attended our preseason call last evening. For those of you who were unable to attend the call, below is a recap of what was discussed.

February 2/23 meeting recap:

Reminder to visit our website and register for the 2025 season. After you register, send 2025 dues payment of $20 to Glenn Acker, Secretary/Treasurer. Please make sure you complete the registration ASAP; we want to get an idea of our umpire numbers for 2025 season.

2025 Registration Fee is $20. Send cash or check (payable to LVASA Umpires) to: Glenn Acker, 1120 Deer Run, Orefield, PA 18069.

We are always looking for new umpires, please feel free to pass this email onto anyone interested in umpiring for the 2025 season and have them reach out to us at lvasasb@yahoo.com for more information.

EPGSL contract for 2025/2026:

New time limit- 1 ½ hour finish the inning for all levels, to include playoff and championship games.

Umpire fee is $74 per umpire for single and two umpire games. If a game is scheduled for two umpires and only one umpire is available, fee remains $74.

We have been approached by another softball league regarding umpiring services. We provided preliminary information, not sure if we would be able to support another league as the EPGSL is our main priority. Will update everyone pending any additional information.

IMPORTANT ITEM - BACKGROUND CLEARANCES: Make sure your background clearances are current for the 2025 season; you cannot umpire if your background clearances are expired.

2025/2026 FEES

Bethlehem Little League:

New time limit - 1 3/4-hour time limit, finish the inning, drop dead at 2 hours to include playoff and championship games.

Umpire fee is $80 per umpire for single and two umpire games.

EPGSL:

· 2025/2026: Pay $74.00 per umpire per game, forfeited game, or any portion of a game when one (1) umpire is requested. Payment is due prior to start of the game.

· 2025/2026: Pay $74.00 per umpire, per game, forfeited game, or any portion of a game when two (2) umpires are requested. Pay $74.00 if one (1) umpire shows up when two (2) umpires are requested.

Pay one half (1/2) game fee per umpire in the event the EPGSL has not canceled the game within one (1) hour of registered start time and the umpire has traveled to the site and the scheduled game is canceled due to inclement weather.

NOTE: IF YOU ARE ASSIGNED A GAME AND NO ONE SHOWS UP, EMAIL US WITH YOUR GAME # AND A BRIEF DESCRIPTION.
