Welcome to St. Edward’s CYO Basketball Page.
Our CYO program is designed to provide all children residing within the St. Edwards community with the opportunity to participate in an organized basketball program. The foundation of the program is to promote & teach basketball skills in a Christian environment that emphasizes sportsmanship & fair play. We welcome all children in our community from grades 1 through 12. Below is a description of each of our programs.
The Clinic Program introduces our K-2 grade children (Boys & Girls) to the game of basketball. The Clinic, offered one night per week, provides one hour of instructional basketball (no games) per week. Please note that the Clinic is available to only children in grades K-2. There are no exceptions to this rule. The Clinic is expected begin in October and will cost $150 for an 8 week session for kindergarten and 1st graders and 10 week sessions for 2nd graders.
St. Edward’s CYO is excited to announce a joint program with USA Basketball starting in September 2016. The first half of the intramural program will be an 8 week 90 minute session offered by USA Basketball led by certified USA basketball coaches. These sessions will focus on improving shooting and passing to defensive slides and positioning/footwork. At the conclusion of the USA basketball sessions the St. Edward’s CYO Intramural season will start in November. The Intramural program provides players in grades 3 through 9 with the opportunity to play games in a league setting. Players are selected onto various teams via a draft. Each team will play 10 games during the season, plus playoffs. Most games are played on Saturdays except the Senior boy’s league (grades 7-9) which will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
The cost for the full program will be discounted to $300. If you choose to register separately: Registration fee for USA Basketball is $150. The registration fee for CYO’s intramural program is $175. All programs are offered for girls and boys.
Senior Boy’s Intramural League
The Senior Boy’s Intramural Program provides players in grades 7 through 9 with the opportunity to play games in a community league setting. Player team assignment is via a coachess' draft, special care is taken to make sure that the teams are evenly matched. Each team will play approximately 10 games during the season; most games are played on Saturday mornings at the MercyFirst gym on Convent Rd in Syosset. Each team will also practice one night per week. The Senior Boy’s League is coached by Junior and Senior High School boy’s from the community who are alumni of the St. Ed’s CYO program. This league provides fun/recreational experience and provides the boys with an opportunity to develop friendships with coaches and players from multiple grade levels. It is a relaxed league which has often been described as “street ball”.
There is a parent supervisor(s) for each team that must attend all games and practices. The Intramural Program will run from November through March. Each player will receive a team jersey. The fee is $175 per player.
The Travel program is designed for players in grades 4 – 12 who are looking to participate in a more competitive environment. There is normally one travel team per grade. Players are selected to teams by try-outs. Teams in the Travel program must adhere to the rules set forth by the Nassau-Suffolk County CYO. The Travel teams will play teams from other Catholic parishes in Nassau or Suffolk County. Travel teams play a 12 game schedule followed by playoffs for the top teams in each division.
