I have received many inquires on my recommendations for cheerleading tumbling. I recommend that the girls learn tumbling on non-spring or foam floors. I am finding that some are learning to tumble on spring and semi-spring floors and when they need to tumble on regular cheerleading mats, there is no spring! At that point, some but not all, have to re-work the tumbling to compensate for the difference in flooring. There is no spring in youth/high school cheerleading mats. Gymnastics and All Star Cheerleading gyms have spring floors. The high school cheerleading mats are 1 3/8 inches of foam. Understand, you can tumble where you feel comfortable but I feel that it is a good idea for them to learn to tumble where they need to tumble if they decide to do cheerleading.
