Back on the Winning Track

The Reserve improved their record to 2 - 2 with a bounce back win after a couple tough losses in the Burke Tourney over the the rainy weekend.  The Pride beat South 7 - 1 on a great night for baseball. It didn't start well due to a scheduling issue as the Pride thought the game was at AL and South was at Roncalli waiting for us to arrive.

Dan Bowers pitched a complete game allowing 1 run on just 1 hit.  He walked 4 and struck out 10.

The Pride had 8 hits on the night.  Leading the way was Noah Oswald and Dan Bowers who each had 2 hits on the night.   Nick Iossi, Nick Valla, Colton Amburn, Landon Garrelts, also recorded base hits.

The Pride is next scheduled to play at Northwest Wed night and a double header on Saturday at Central.

Reserve Start the Summer on a High Note

Final Spring Game

It is hard to believe but the spring baseball season has come and gone.  The reserve team wrapped up play Tuesday night with a home game vs Skutt High School.   Skutt pulled out a 2 - 1 win over Roncali.

The reserve finished the spring season with a 4 - 5 record and are looking forward to a great summer of baseball.

Saturday Double Header

Game 1:

The reserve played a double header on Saturday at Bryan High School. Game 1 was a date with Class A Lincoln High.  They started off with a strong pitching performance by Nick Valla.  Nick went 6 innings allowing only 1 run thru 5 innings.  A number of errors lead to 5 runs in the top of the 6th.

The score was tied  6 - 6 going into the top of the 7th.  Lincoln High scored 2 runs to take a 2 run lead into the bottom of the 7th.

Nicki Iossi lead off the bottom of the 7th with a base hit and Cole Gillespie hit a double to score Iossi.   After a fly out by Dempsey, Jonathan Sheehy hit a shot up the middle scoring Gillespie.   Jonathan Sheehy stole a couple bases and with him at 3rd, Nate Meyer hit a ground ball to 2nd.  Jonathan Sheehy slide under the tag at home to finish off the comeback win.

Mike Wilmes lead the team going 3 for 4 at the plate. Caleb Dempsey went 2 for 3 and Nicki Iossi and Jonathan Sheehy went 2 for 4.

Game 2:   The 2nd game was against another Class A team in Bryan.    Noah Oswald started on the mound and had a hard time finding the plate.   Bryan scored 4 runs on 0 hits and 7 walks.

Even though they got into a hole early, they did not give up.  They battled back to cut the lead to 6 - 5 with the tying run at 3rd base in the 7th inning.  The rally fell short and they lost 6 - 5.

Dan Bowers lead the team going 3 for 4 at the plate. Nick Valla went 2 for 4 with a double.

The final game of the spring season is Tuesday, April 30th.   They play Skutt at 5:00 at Roncalli.

Pitchers Dual

The reserve team lost 2 - 1 Friday night to Fremont.    Jonathan Sheehy pitched the first 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits.   Dan Bowers pitched the last 3 innings giving up 0 runs on 3 hits.

The bats were a bit quite in this one.   Nolan Kosmicki and Nick Valla lead the team both going 2 for 3 at the plate.  They just were not able to get the key hit when they needed it.

The next game is a double header on Saturday at Bryan.

Reserve Winning Streak

Well, it was finally time for some baseball.   The reserve team had not played since their double header win 2 1/2 weeks ago.  Although it was a long wait, it was worth it.  The reserve beat Ralston 8-0 to improve to 3-2 on the year.

They got a great pitching performance from Nick Iossi.  He started and went 4 innings to get the win.  He allowed only 3 hits over 4 innings.  He had 7 strikeouts and only 2 walks.    Dan Bowers came in to get the save by pitching 3 scoreless innings.  He allowed 2 hits and had 7 strikeouts.

It was also nice to see the bats come to life a bit.   Nick Valla had a single to right center field, in the 1st inning, driving in the first run of the game.   Jarod Stickrod lead the team going 2 for 3 at the plate.  His RBI single in the 4th inning opened up a 2-0 lead.   Josh Lampe's rbi single gave the Reserve a 3-0 lead after 4 innings.   The reserve exploded for 4 runs in the 5th on singles by Mike Wilmes, Landon Garrelts, Jarod Stickrod, and Garrett Graeve.    The reserve capped the scoring in the 7th inning when Jonathan Sheehy had an rbi single to left field.

The reserve hope to continue their winning streak when they play Fremont Friday 5:00 @ Roncalli.

Pride vs Bennington 4/8/2013

The Freshman team picked up 2 big wins last night in Bennington to get back to 500 at 2 - 2.

In Game 1, Matt Valla started his 2nd game of the year and had another great outing picking up a 6 - 4 win.   Defense played much better and if not for a few base running issues, the score could have been much worse.  It was a much needed win after a tough start to the year.  Andrew Lamer came in to get his first save of his High School career.

In Game 2, Jonathan Sheehy started and pitched well in his high school debut.  He walked just 2 batters over 4 2/3 innings of work and gave up only 2 runs over his first 3 innings. He ran into a bit of a bind in the 4th & 5th innings but worked thru it.  Nick Iossi came in for 1 1/3 innings to get the 9 - 8 win and again Andrew Lamer came in to save the 2nd game of the night.

The big play of the night came in the bottom of the 7th inning in the 2nd game of the night.  Bennington had the tying run at 3rd and the winning run at 2nd.  With 2 outs and 2 strikes, there was a hit to the gap between right field and center field.  Nick Crinklaw came in to make a running catch and preserve the win.

Overall, it was 2 nice and much needed wins.

Freshman Reserves vs. Elkhorn

The Freshman team got behind, in the first inning, after a couple of unearned runs.  They were down 5-2 heading into the top of the 6th. They battled back to pull within 5-4 after a base hit by Noah Oswald.  Unfortunatly, they came up a bit short losing 5 - 4 to Elkhorn.  Noah Oswald was the starting pitcher and Dan Bowers came in relief.  They combined to only give up 5 hits for the game.  The next game for the Freshman is Monday when they have a Double Header at Benningon.
