About Wilson Youth Baseball (formerly known as Wilson JBO): Wilson Youth Baseball (WYB) provides a transition from youth baseball to high school level of play.  All WYB games are played on full-size fields, the same size used for the high school to the major leagues. Most new WYB players find the transition to a larger field challenging at first. Our paid coaches will focus on individual skill development, including fielding, hitting, pitching, position, and team preparation aimed at developing players to their highest ability level and preparing them to play high school baseball.  Last year, we hired Nate Wilson-Traisman formerly Lewis & Clark College baseball coach as our specialty coach for hitting, pitching, and fielding.   In addition, we have working to secure additional coaches that have played and/or coached at the college level for our teams.  Each team will have at least two coaches, in addition to all teams utilizing our high school coaches when available.

Registration Fees: WYB is a transition to a competitive baseball environment. Wilson Youth Baseball is committed to providing not only that environment but the staff, training opportunities and fields necessary to continue to build a successful player and program. The registration fee for 2021 is $550 if you register by March 5. After March 5 it will be $575.   Please use the coupon code paymentplan2021 for a payment plan in the coupon field on the cart page.  Tournament fees will be included for two tournaments with any additional paid to the coaches. This fee covers team registration, hats, umpires, fields, coaches, insurance, supplies, and some field maintenance. Uniform fees will be separate. We will offer limited scholarships. Please contact Wilson Youth Baseball (again formerly known as Wilson JBO) at  wilsonjbopdx@gmail.com to inquire. You can register here.

Registration Deadline: Registration must be received no later than March 5 to guarantee a spot at Spring Training and seasonal play.

Player Eligibility: Players must be enrolled in a grade no higher than 8th grade for the 2020-21 school year.  Players who have aged out of SWPLL can register at the 6th grade level of WYB. Players should be living at an address or attending a school, within the Wilson High School boundaries.  It is possible to get a waiver for the residency/school requirement; if this applies to you please contact League President Mel Bessner at wilsonjbopdx@gmail.com

Uniforms: Cost of uniforms is separate from registration and will be ordered once teams are assigned. Jersey’s will be approximately $35. We ask players to wear white pants and green belts for games.

Practices and Games: Games begin in mid-April. The season runs until early July, with possible post-season tournaments in mid or July.  All practices and games are on weeknights. Practices start as early as April 5, but Spring training and evaluations will occur throughout the month of March with teams being formed by April 2.

Fields:  Our home fields are at Jackson Middle School and Clopton Field at Wilson High School.  Note that your registration fee covers some field maintenance, but it is the responsibility of each team’s players and families to help prep fields prior and after each game.

Spring Training and Roster Selection: High School coaches and volunteers will lead players through Spring Training from March 6, 7, 13, 14, and 20. Times are TBD.  Spring Training will consist of multiple sessions at Wilson High School fields and the Wilson batting cages.

In addition to our commitment to provide the best environment possible, Wilson Youth Baseball expect commitment from both players and families during the entire season. Roster selection will be completed by coaches following Spring Training, with input from the Board, as needed.  Players will be divided by skill level and team needs, not by schools or friend preferences. WYB intends to find a place for every player; HOWEVER, it is possible that the number of registered players does not distribute equally among teams, therefore, we reserve the right to try to find alternative places to play for some players. All teams will have no fewer than 10 players and a maximum of 12 players.  Players will be cut only as a last resort.
