What are the ages and divisions?

Effective October 5, 2016

Big East accepts kids from ages 4 – 15 which breakdown in the following divisions: 

Tiny Tots – Ages 4 to 5

Pee Wees – Ages 6 to 7

Minors – Ages 8 to 9

Juniors – Ages 10 to 11

Seniors – 12 to 13

Super Seniors - 14 to 15

 

What division will my child play if their birthday is during the season?

If a player has a birthday before January 1st which moves them to the next division that child must play up to the next division.

 

When does the season start and end?

Games begin play the 1st Saturday in January.  The regular season ends on or around the 3rd Saturday in March.

 

How many nights are practices?

Teams are given an (1 ½) hour of practice time each week.

 

How are teams selected?

Players are evaluated after registration has closed then drafted by the coaches.  Players who played the season before can request to be placed back on the same teams if remaining in the same division.  We make every effort to honor special requests, but cannot guarantee they will be honored.  All players changing divisions must be evaluated and drafted.

 

Are siblings allowed to be on the same team?

Every effort is made to put siblings in the same division on the same teams.

 

What does my registration fee pay for?

Your registration covers the cost of the uniforms, that you are able to keep, the insurance cost, the fee for the officials, and other cost associated with running the league.

 

How does the league insurance work?

League Insurance is supplementary.  Any injury claims must first be submitted to your primary insurance carrier, and remaining claims may be submitted to the league insurance carrier.

 

What is the fundraiser opt out fee?

In order to keep registration costs low the league uses fundraisers to help supplement revenue to keep the league operational.  The Opt out fee is $40 per family.  Every effort is made to choose a fundraiser that everyone can enjoy and will participate in.  The Opt Out fee must be paid when fundraiser monies are due.

 

Additional Facts

 

  1. The school gyms are assigned by Henrico County Recreation and Parks.  Recreational, activities held in the schools are secondary to school events.
  2. If Henrico County schools are closed, then all gyms are closed.  Every effort will be made to reschedule affected practices or games if time permits.
  3. There is NO Food or Drinks allowed inside any school gym.  Players and spectators’ should use the inside water receptacles as you are not allowed to bring in water bottles nor Gatorade.
  4. There may be instances where some games will be played on a week night to allow us ample time to get through the schedule.
