Each year, the West Side Falcons Youth Organization recognizes outstanding achievement, at ALL levels. Nothing gives us greater pleasure than to acknowledge the special performances that we witnessed throughout the season!

Additionally, we feel that is of utmost importance that we bestow some very special awards. The Falcon Family are deeply indebted to those who have come before us. Most of us realize that we are all but a single link in the chain……a chain that we hope will continue forever. While no one link is more important than another, there are some links whose shine matched the blaze of the sun.

ALL Football players are eligible for the following award:

Tony Costanzi (THE IRON MAN AWARD)Coach Costanzi was a long time Falcon coach. Coach Costanzi was a big man. To his young players, he was a little intimidating on the first day of practice. However, Coach Costanzi’s friendly personality, laughter and big smile were a comfort to all the players. Many can still remember hearing him, at the Falcons Award banquet, many years ago, handing out the Most Dedicated Player Award, “for an OUTSTANDING effort everyday, the award goes to…..”!

ALL Cheerleaders are eligible for the following award:

Annette Edwards AwardMrs. Edwards dedicated over twenty years to the West Side Falcon girls. She organized the cheerleaders and was their advisor for many years. She led the cheerleaders to many awards at competitions.

Football players who are moving up, graduating or displayed extraordinary performance during the season are eligible for the following awards:

Frank Butsko Award (A Team)Frank was a long-time Falcon player. Frank starred at West Scranton (all Scholastic). Played at Drake University and following his graduation coached football at Mansfield University until his untimely death in an automobile accident while on a recruiting visit.

Elmer Edwards Award (A Team)Mr. Edwards dedicated over twenty years to the West Side Falcons. He was a past President and ‘A’ team Head Coach, who achieved many championships.

Nick Blasi Award (C Team)
Nick was a ‘C’ team defensive coordinator and coached under Joe Romano and Kenny Martin. Nick was a part of the coaching staff when the ‘C’ team won the championship in 1991. He always had a great sense of humor and was a stickler for the rules.

Tom Coleman Award (B Team)
Tom coached for over fifteen years. He won a championship at each level, ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’.

Tom Cook Award (A Team)
Tom coached over twenty years. He coached the ‘A’ team and was the defensive coordinator. He coached championship teams with Elmer Edwards and Mike Holley.

John Pivovarnick Award (B Team)
Mr. Pivovarnick was the ‘B’ team coach for several years. He brought fun and laughter to the game for the coaches and the players.

Jimmy Ferraro III Award (B Team)
Jimmy was a young boy who was full of life and whose heart was bigger than any game. At the age of ten, Jimmy was killed in a tragic accident. He was a ‘B’ team player for the Falcons.

Ron Drake Award (C Team)
Ron was a long-time Falcon player. Ron starred at West Side (All-Scholastic). Ron’s life was cut short as he lost his battle with cancer.

Joe Romano & Lino Stefani Award (C Team)
Joe dedicated over twenty years to the Falcons. Joe, as Head Coach of the ‘C’ team, in it’s ‘hey day’, won six out of seven championships. Joe always stressed the values of family, religion and friends.

Lino dedicated over twenty years to the Falcons. Lino was loving, honest, and emotional. Lino was the defensive ‘guru’ under Joe Romano (Lino was much more than a coach. He was a ‘true friend’). He also coached many years with Kenny Martin, who became more than a friend. Lino was Kenny’s ‘father figure’. Lino, never forgotten and loved by all.

Dan Repshis Award (A Team)
Dan was the most dedicated parent, grandparent, and volunteer ever involved with the Falcons, from cheering on the sidelines to lending a helping hand. There wasn’t a game or practice that he couldn’t be seen standing along the fence. His presence will always be felt.

Frank Ottone Award (B Team)Frank was a B Team Coach, involved for over 15 years. He was part of the coaching staff for a Championship Team. He has volunteered his time, for several years, filming all the games at his own expense.

Joe Skorec Award (C Team)
Joe was a C Team Coach under Joe Romano. He was part of many Championship seasons. He not only brought experience to the players, but he also brought humor.

Tater Award (C Team)
Taevon Miles, a cornerback on the 'D' squad was affectionately refered to as "Fingers" by his coaches, for his prowess in bringing down any runner with his fingers... sometimes using only one of them. He had been ready to move up to fulfill his role on the 'C' team for the 2009 season but little did we know that God had a greater plan and needed Tater for his own team.

New for the 2012 Season. All Graduating A Team Cheerleaders and All Graduating A Team Football players who have shown dedication
through EACH level (D, C, B, and A) without missing a single year are eligible for the following award:


The Martin - Horton Dedication Award
Ken & Kathy Martin along with Al & Fran Horton combined have over 100 years of VOLUNTEER service with the West Side Falcons. These families can be seen at our field rain or shine, always focusing on providing a safe and positive experience for the boys and girls of our orginization. Their commitment is not just as mothers and fathers, but as coaches and board members. "A Dedication From Start to Finish"
