Age and Eligibility Must be 5 by 4/30/of current year. A copy of the birth certificate must be provided at registration. Registration will NOT be accepted without birth certificate.
General Information Starting program for 5/6 year olds. Games are played at the Peotone Park District Field #4. All weeknight games start at 530 PM
Shetland League Goals
- Fun, learn basic skills and introduce baseball format by end of year.

- Groundball infield throw to first base
- If pop-fly caught, it is an out
- Fielding position, including how to hold and control glove
- Catch thrown ball
- Keep ground ball in front of you using both hands to field
- Demonstrate proper technique to step and throw
- Batting - players should have comfortable stance, keep eye on ball, swing level, step toward pitcher and use light bat.
- As with all divisions, an athletic cup must be worn.

A. First half of the season
- Each player will be given three pitches from his/her coach. If the ball is not hit after the three pitches, the tee will be used.
- Each player will bat once each inning.
- Batters and runners should run one base at a time.
- Last batter runs around all bases.
- There will be no official score kept for the game.
B. Second half of season
- Introduce baseball format. example: if offensive team gets three outs after after three batters, that is all that bats that inning.
- Three outs per inning with a maximum of 5 runs per inning. This includes the last inning. Games can end in a tie. No extra innings.
- Coach will pitch as in the first half of year.
- Coach pitcher is not to touch the ball in play.
- Batters and runners should run one base at a time, unless ball is hit into the outfield then second base is allowed with the risk of being out.
- Extra bases on overthrows are not permitted.
- Records need not be recorded. There is no official win-loss record.
C. All season
- Ground rules must be discussed before each game. (just so everyone is on the same page and no child gets confused)
Each game should be a minimum of three innings.(unless time of game has exceeded one hour, then coaches may agree to end it after two full innings)
- When a player is out, he/she is removed from the base.
- A 10-foot diameter arc will be placed in front of home plate. Any ball that does not travel to or past the arc will be considered a foul ball.
Player may not play the same position each inning.
- Each player must play in the infield a minimum of once per game.
- Coaches are allowed on the field during games, but must not touch a player at any time.
- Pitcher may not run to any base for force out if he/she gets the hit ball, unless fielded within 10 feet of base.
- There is to be no short infielder of any kind.
- Outfielders must play at least five feet behind baseline.
- Kid pitcher must be even or behind coach pitcher when in "ready position"
- On a 12 player team, the positioning shall be: all regular infield positions plus one added behind second base.
outfielders shall be evenly spaced to equal the twelve players. Again, no short infielder
- The only thing a t ball player needs to bring is a mitt. Cleats are preferred but not manditory. Nothing else needs to be purchased, ever.
- All offensive players MUST wear a helmet with a facemask while on the field.
- No bat larger than 2 5/8 is allowed and must be clearly marked as such by manufacturer.
- Smoking is NOT allowed by any coach or manager at practice or games.
- Make sure your team has a treat schedule for all games please.
- Please make sure practices do not exceed one hour if possible.
