The start of the 2014 Daily News League baseball season marks the 86th consecutive year the league has been in existence. The Daily News, based in McKeesport, has sponsored the league since 1928.  Not very long ago, the league was mostly made up of players aged 30 and older using aluminum bats. In 2012, the league switched to soley using the more traditional wooden bat, a move that attracted many new young players to the league who looked to improve their skills over the summer while idle from their college baseball seasons.  A survey of this year's roster reveals that nearly 90% of the league's active participants are 25 years of age or younger, with the majority of those being both active college players along with some high school seniors preparing to embark on a collegiate baseball career. The players participating in the DNL for the 2014 season are from the following colleges and universities:
