Westview Players & Parents:

Below is some of the player and parental standards for the  soccer season. Please read through these standards carefully, for although they reiterate what you have read and signed in the Westview Athletic Handbook, there are some additions that you need to be aware of.

Player Expectations (in addition to the student athlete agreement):

• Respect will be shown toward teammates, coaches, opposing players, spectators, and referees.

o If an infraction occurs (per coaches’ interpretation), a verbal warning will be issued.

o Upon the second verbal warning, the player will be placed on a week-long suspension from games and practices.

o Upon the third verbal warning, a meeting between the Athletic Director and coach will take place and a sufficient punishment will be decided (possibly resulting in an indefinite suspension for the remainder of the season).

• Punctuality in regards to practice and games will be expected of all players. Habitual tardiness will be seen as a lack of respect towards teammates and the coaching staff, resulting in a verbal warning and following the above mentioned format.

• Academic Eligibility: Although CIF mandates that players must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 and be passing a minimum of 2/3 of their classes in order to remain eligible to play, the Westview boys soccer coaching recommends that the minimum overall GPA for our athletes be 2.5, and be passing all of their classes to be allowed to play in games and participate in practices.

• A Varsity Letter will be given on the basis of merit (at the discretion of the coaching staff), but will include number of Varsity appearances, Varsity contributions, and overall attitude.

Practice dress code will be strictly enforced and be as follows:

o No Club paraphernalia will be allowed at practices.

o Only Westview practice t-shirts will be worn during practices, with either black, grey, or white shorts/socks.

o Proper shinguards, cleats, and running shoes are a necessity for every practice.

If a practice and/or a game needs to be missed (which should be extremely rare), please make sure to either call my voice-mail or e-mail me…telling a teammate to tell the coaching staff that you can’t make it is unacceptable.

Parent Expectations (in addition to the parent-student athlete agreement):

• Under no circumstances will parents approach or attempt to discuss issues with a coach during practices, games, or directly after games. If there are any questions or concerns, then parents need to call the coach and, if needed, make an appointment to meet.

• During a parent-coach meeting, only issues that pertain to your athlete will be discussed. Under no circumstances will there be a discussion on comparing your athlete’s playing time, attitude, eligibility, etc. with that of another athlete’s.

• For stadium games (JV and Varsity), parents will remain in the stands, during freshman games, parents will not be allowed to sit within 20 yards of the coach or players.

  • There will be no heckling, coaching, or “bad-mouthing” referees, players, coaches, etc. from parents during games; any negative comments from the stands or sidelines may result in the offender being asked to leave.

Thank you for supporting your son, the coaches and soccer families!
