Astros win Victoria Day weekend tournament

The Lisle Astros won their Victoria Day weekend baseball tournament on Sunday, defeating the Orillia Majors 17-7 in the championship game.

The five-team tournament opened Saturday with 8-0 wins by the New Lowell Knights over the Caledon Cardinals and the Orillia Majors over the Creemore Padres.

The Knights then faced the host Astros in the afternoon, falling 9-7.

The consolation game Sunday morning featured the Creemore Padres and the Caledon Cardinals. Caledon took an early 4-0 lead, but the Padres scored five runs in the fifth to make it 6-4.

Caledon responded with two runs in the sixth to tie the game. The Padres then scored the winning run on an errant throw into the dugout, allowing the runner to score from third base.

In the championship game, the Astros and Majors traded runs early before a decisive 11-run third inning gave Lisle a 16-4 lead. The Astros added another run in the fourth, while the Majors attempted a comeback with three runs in the top of the fifth. The rally ended on a line-drive catch by Lisle first baseman Kris Allary.

Lisle last won its tournament in 2024. No tournament was held in 2025.

Lisle tournament returns May 16-17 with five-team field

A five-team field will take to the diamond this Victoria Day weekend as the Lisle Astros Baseball Club hosts its tournament May 16 and 17, featuring a compact schedule and a Sunday championship showdown.

The tournament opens Saturday morning with the New Lowell Knights facing the Caledon Cardinals at 10 a.m., followed by the Orillia Majors taking on the Creemore Padres at 12 noon.

The host Astros take a first-round bye, creating a streamlined bracket that advances a mid-afternoon matchup at 2 p.m. to determine one of the finalists.

Play resumes Sunday with the consolation final scheduled for 10 a.m. with the championship game set for 12:30 p.m.
