What is HitTrax League?
A HitTrax league is an indoor baseball league where players compete in virtual Major League stadiums using HitTrax simulation technology. AUBL Miami will use high school homerun fence dimensions. The HitTrax system uses advanced sensors and cameras to track the ball and display real-time game outcomes, combining traditional gameplay with digital metrics. Swing Kings will provide a pitcher to feed the baseballs into the manual pitching machine. Balls and strikes will be called by HitTrax. Regular MLB baseball rules apply. The umpire will rule on check swings and other possible judgement calls.
How a HitTrax league works:
Instead of a full, on-field baseball game, HitTrax leagues focus exclusively on hitting, using a manual pitching machine in a batting cage.
The key steps include:
Virtual environment: Players hit real baseballs and the HitTrax technology projects the ball's virtual flight path and resulting play (e.g., single, double, out) onto a Television screen.
Stadium selection: The system allows teams to play in a scaled-down virtual replica of their favorite professional or college ballpark.
Team vs. team format: 9 inning games finish in less than 1 hour. Teams participate with minimum 3 players, maximum 5 players.
Automated game results: Sensors track the ball's speed and trajectory, and the system automatically determines the outcome of each hit, complete with virtual baserunners.
Metrics and data: The technology provides players with immediate feedback on key stats, including:
Exit velocity (how fast the ball comes off the bat)
Launch angle (the angle of the ball's trajectory)
Distance (how far the ball would have traveled)
Spray charts (a visual map of hit placement)
Schedule, Standings, playoffs and news stories will be posted on AUBL Miami website www.aublmiami.com
Key differences from a traditional league
Feature
HitTrax league
Traditional league
Gameplay
Focuses solely on hitting. The system provides virtual defense, so there is no live fielding.
Involves all aspects of baseball, including hitting, pitching, and fielding.
Time commitment
A much shorter format, with games typically finishing in under 1 hour
Can run for two to three hours or more.
Metrics
Provides instant, data-driven feedback on every swing, allowing for precise player development.
Metrics are typically recorded manually, with no immediate, in-depth analysis of every swing.
Environment
The controlled, consistent conditions of the simulator create a low-pressure environment for focused practice.
Game pressure and outcomes can vary with each field and opponent.
Benefits of a HitTrax league
Year-round training: Players can keep their skills sharp during the offseason.
Player development: The instant feedback and data help hitters make rapid, informed adjustments to their swing.
Competitive pressure: The game-like simulation puts players under pressure, helping them perform better in real games.
Engagement: The immersive, video-game-style format keeps players engaged and motivated to practice.
