AUBL Miami HitTrax League Rules and Regulations updated 8/22/25
The AUBL Miami HitTrax Leagues are held at Swing Kings batting cages using the HitTrax “Pro Model”. HitTrax is a state-of-the-art system using artificial intelligence to determine height, distance and velocity of a baseball hit by a baseball bat.
Balls and Strikes
Using a manual pitching machine, a ball is pitched by the batting machine pitcher to a player inside a batting cage. The HitTrax engine will call balls and strikes on the batter. MLB rules apply to each at-bat (strike out, walk, batted ball in play). There is no hit by pitch. Any ball that strikes a batter legally inside the batters’ box will be called a ball by the HitTrax umpire. If the batter is found to stand too close to Homeplate, the pitch will be called a strike by the HitTrax umpire.
Batted Ball In-Play
Once the batter hits the pitch, HitTrax will determine the outcome. HitTrax will 1st determine if the ball is hit fair or foul. If fair, HitTrax will determine if the “artificial fielder(s)” made a play on the ball to create an out. If the ball is fair and no play is made, the “artificial runner(s)” will advance accordingly. There is no bunting in any HitTrax games. If the umpire believes a player has intentionally bunted, the batter will be ruled out and the runner(s) will return to their original bases.
Equipment
All players must wear sneakers and a batting helmet during play. Only wood bats may be used in any AUBL Miami HitTrax league game.
Game Length, Extra Innings, Double Headers, Mercy Rule, Playoffs, Suspended Games and Rainouts
Game Length – All regular season games are 9 innings or 1 hour (an inning may not begin after 1 hour has elapsed). Once the time limit expires, the home team will ONLY bat if the visiting team is ahead or the game is tied. Under NO circumstances will the home team bat after time has expired if the home team is ahead. For playoffs, time is extended to 1 hour and 15 minutes. For championship series, all games must be played to a result with no time limit.
Extra innings will be played to break a tie, time permitting. All games (including all playoff games) that are tied after 9 innings (double headers 7 innings) or after time has expired will start each inning with a runner at 2nd base with no outs. The runner at 2nd base will be the last batted out from the prior inning.
Doubleheaders – In the event that a doubleheader is scheduled (the same 2 teams playing 2 games back-to-back), both games will be 7 innings or 45 minutes.
** For the league championship best 2 of 3 series, the first 2 games will be in the form of a double header. Both games will be 7 innings. Each championship series game must be played to a result with no time limit.
Abbreviated Games – The umpire may suspend, cancel or call a game if in their opinion the safety of the players is compromised. Even in a batting cage, there may be times where rain and / or wind may suspend or cancel a game. The umpire will determine if a game is suspended or canceled.
Rain and / or Wind – If a game is judged by the umpire to be unplayable due to rain, or hazardous weather conditions to players or equipment such as wind exist, the game may be suspended until the umpires are satisfied that play can safely resume. The umpires at their sole discretion can cancel a game if the batting cage is considered unplayable. If a game is cancelled due to rain, it is considered complete at the end of the 5th inning. If the game is called prior to completion of 5th inning, the game is considered cancelled and will be made up in accordance with rainout policy (the game is considered complete after the visiting team has batted in the 5th inning ONLY if the home team is ahead). If 9 innings are not completed before the game is cancelled, the final score will revert back to the last full inning played.
Makeup of Rainouts and Suspended Games – Rainout /suspended games will be made up and rescheduled. Due to the nature of the AUBL Miami schedule, the makeup game may be matched up with a different opponent. There may be some cases where a game is not made up if the game does not impact playoff eligibility or playoff positioning.
Makeup of Rainouts and Suspended Games for playoffs – Any playoff game that is canceled by the umpires due to unplayable conditions such as rain or wind before the 5th inning is completed (top of the 5th inning if the home team is winning at that point) will be considered SUSPENDED. The game will resume the following week from the exact point that the game was suspended. Time limit will also resume from the exact point that the game was suspended. Lineups for each team will remain the same. Any player may be replaced by a substitute when the game resumes, but the batting lineup will remain intact, with any substitutions occurring within the original batting lineup. Any game that is stopped after the 5th inning is completed (top of the 5th inning if the home team is winning at that point) will be considered complete as is stated in prior rules.
MERCY RULE – there is no mercy rule in Hittrax leagues. The losing team may decide to end the game at any point of the game if the score becomes too lopsided.
Playoffs – Rosters, Schedules and Tie Breakers - AUBL Miami league standings are determined first by total points, then by winning percentage.
Rosters - After the 5th game of the season, each team will submit their final playoff roster to the league office. These rosters are locked before the 6th game is played. Full team rosters will be sent to each manager and posted on the league website. Playoff rosters are limited to a maximum of 15 players
Playoff Roster Violations – If a player is not listed on the playoff roster, the opposing manager must alert the umpire and have the player removed from the game. If the player’s identity is in question, the opposing manager has the right to ask for identification from the player. If the player fails to produce a valid license or identification card, the player will be removed from the game. Under no circumstance will the game be forfeited due to player(s) participation.
Playoff Schedules – Playoff games are scheduled following the regular season. Teams may not request a bye during playoff weeks.
Points and Tiebreakers
Points are determined as follows:
Win = 2 points
Tie = 1 point
Loss = 0 points
Tie Breaker 1: In the event of a tie in the standings (2 or more teams tied in points and winning percentage), the first tie breaker is head-to-head competition.
Tie Breaker 2: In the event head-to-head competition does not break the tie, net runs scored in head-to-head competition will be used to settle the tie (the team with the higher number of net runs scored advances to the playoffs). In the event three teams are tied, net runs scored will be used to break a tie in situations where the head-to-head round robin results yielded identical records.
Tie Breaker 3: Net runs scored for all games played during the regular season. Net runs scored is calculated by adding up all the runs a team has scored and subtracting all runs allowed. The team with the higher number of net runs scored advances to the playoffs.
Tie Breaker 4: The final tie breaker is a coin flip.

Line-Ups
Minimum Line-up – A team must bat a minimum of three players but may bat as many as 5 players. Teams may participate with 2 players, but the missing 3rd player will be an automatic out in the lineup. A team batting less than 5 players may add players to the bottom of the lineup at any time. A player may also be replaced by a substitute at any time. Once a player has been removed for a substitute, that player is no longer eligible to participate in that game.
Effect of Injuries on the Line-up – If a player is forced to leave a game due to an injury, a reserve roster player must hit in the batter’s place. If the team does not have a replacement, the team will skip that spot in the lineup. This rule also applies if a player leaves the game early for any personal reasons.
Effect of Ejections on Line-up – If the team has less than 2 players and no reserve is present; the team is automatically disqualified. If a team only has 2 players (or all players present are already in the batting lineup), that batting slot will be an automatic out. If a team has 4 players and that player is not yet in the batting lineup, that player would automatically substitute for the ejected player. If a team has 5 players or more, the manager will choose a substitute for the ejected player in the batting lineup if 1 or more players are not currently in the batting lineup.
