Coach Information - Preseason Note

Here are a few notes and links to attachments to help you prepare for some of the admin-related game day tasks.

First the notes:

Game cards: if you're not familiar with these, the External VP can talk to you about them when you stop by to pick yours up. You will get one for each home game. Some of you may only have 4 home games scheduled so far - you will have a Week J game if it applies to you, and those will be scheduled just after Week H. Look below to get an idea of what those cards look like, and some of the pertinent information on those cards.

The game card (see images below) will list the referee fees, which the teams split. Current fees are as follows:

  • Small sided fees are $46 for center ref and half that for the ARs
  • Small or large sided U11 or U12 fees are $50 for center refs and $25 for ARs
  • Large sided U13 or U14 are $66 for center refs and $33 for ARs
  • U15/U16 are $7for center refs and $38 for ARs
  • U19 are $8for center refs and $43 for ARs

Most games will have 3 refs, so you're looking at $46 for small sided or either $50 or $66 for U11 & U12 for each game to cover your half of the fees. The club sends out a check to each coach to cover the majority of the referee fees for the season, and you must track the number of refs for each of your games. That will be part of the score you report each week on the BTSC web site.

The refs will ask for that money prior to the game; this is a great opportunity for your team treasurer to take care of one admin chore on your behalf! Whoever does so should also get the referee and AR names so we can appropriately praise good refereeing, or admonish sub-standard work.

Game management: no one enjoys a shellacking, so please review these guidelines to keep goal differentials in hand. As of fall 2013, teams that fail to keep the goal differential to 6 or fewer will be penalized with two fewer home games in the spring.

Labels:  on the card are 4 spots for team rosters: 2 for the home team and 2 for the visitor. See below for a template that you can revise and print onto Avery 6464 labels to affix to the game card. Do that up front for all of your home games, and then bring the rest to your away games. If you are really cheap like me, or can't locate the labels, you can print onto a regular sheet of paper, cut them to size, and then glue stick & staple them onto the game cards.

Links: we have links on our website for the Game Card label template and the Game Day checklist.  You'll need to revise that template to reflect your team name, division, and roster. Alternatively, you can use the game card template on the MNJYSA site.
