Well, another memorable GSBL season has come and gone, and the year was capped by the 16th Annual Grand Slam Scramble held at Beaver Meadow Country Club in Concord. Forty-seven (47) golfers in thirteen foursomes and one threesome participated, and the winning "Better Than Last Year's Team" foursome won the day with an 18-under final score of 54, followed by Phillies' "MVP Crew" who shot a 17-under 57, and the Rockies' "Pin-Seekers," who had a 16-under 58. "The Barbershop Foretetters" rounded out the showing with a Scramble-worst 8-over 80.
After the Scramble, new league President Chris Guilmette handed out awards chosen by the league's managers & executive board. Winners this year were:
- Pitcher of the Year: Brian Shea (30 IP, 5ER, 41K, 1.50 ERA)
- Hitter of the Year: Korey LeLievre (.568 AVG, 9 Doubles, 1 HR, 19 Runs Scored, 10 RBI, 1.541 OPS)
- Rookie of the Year: Cesar Jimenez (.463 AVG, 2 Triples, 2 HR, 22 Runs Scored, 20 RBI, 1.283 OPS)
- Matty P Sportsmen of the Year: Victor Rosado, RIP, and Eric Cheli, RIP
- Lifetime Achievemen Award: Troy Barber
In terms of leadership, a number of new faces will take the field in 2023 in service of the Granite State Baseball League:
- Chris Guilmette, President, replacing Bob Gould. Thank you for your selfless service, Bob!
- Aaron Wovkanech, Treasurer, replacing Troy Barber.
- Ryan Neuendorff, Secretary, replacing Jack Kelley.
Thanks to the generosity of our Scramble participants and our hole sponsors, the GSBL will again be able to make a donation to The Matty P Foundation with proceeds from the golf tournament. If you are interested in participating in next year's Scramble and/or serving as Scramble Chair, please let us know!
