I hope that this past baseball season was a good one for you. Despite the occasional bump in the road, I hope that at the end of the season you were able to walk away knowing more about baseball and more about yourself. I know that for some of you baseball is just a small blip on your radar while others are in it for the long haul. But no matter what group you fall into, just remember that success in any area of life (including athletics) comes by taking the gifts that God has given you and then working hard to enhance those gifts.

This might mean that you need to step out of your comfort zone and take some risks. But … the person who risks nothing has nothing. Your world has little purpose if you don’t take a risk and challenge your own personal world to be better. When obstacles come up, change the direction on how you will get there. But, never change your mind about getting better or achieving your goals.

That means do not leave your future to fate and never give up on your dreams. Every single one of you has the power within yourself to make your dreams a reality. So, when you feel like quitting remember that achieving the goals that you have set for yourself will require a “never say die” attitude AND may take a lot of sweat and maybe even some tears.

Also remember that attitude is a habit of thought. Even though we all slip into negativity, you must not dwell there. You need to view every experience in life as a learning experience, even if you are only learning what not to do. Through the years I have learned that negativity is a breeding ground for excuses and failure. Ultimately, only you can control your thoughts, emotions, and actions. In other words, do not point fingers and DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES.

All clichés and advice aside, I have really enjoyed coaching you guys this season. Continue to work hard and take this program and more importantly yourself to another level. If you need anything from me or you wish to talk with me about anything please feel free.
