Next Up - Ventura County Fusion

May 19, 2008
Home game at USF Negoesco Stadium - Game time is 8:00 pm

This match is the final of four matches that count as qualifiers for the U.S. Open Cup.  Unfortunately, the Seals are out of the cup competition effective Saturday night when the Frogs won their match against the Fusion.

Still, a good win is needed to keep pace with the Frogs in League play, as the Seals are in second place behind the Frogs with 8 points to the Frogs 10.

The Fusion are out of the Cup.  They have earned only 3 points, and the Frogs now have 10.  The Seals earned 5 points, and can earn a maximum of 8.  Only one team from the Division will move on to Cup play.

Last season the Fusion came onto the scene as the newest member in the PDL Southwest Division of the Western Conference, and proceeded to impress.  It was a tight race, and the Fusion finished fourth, but they were just 3 points away from winning the league.  They were 3-0-0 in their first three games in 2007.

This year has been a bit more difficult.

In three matches to start 2008, the Fusion find themselves with no wins, one loss, and two draws.  Don't discount them, however.  They drew 0-0 against the Bakersfield Brigade in the first match of the season, and came from 2 goals down against the San Fernando Quakes to draw 2-2 with late goals coming in the 85th and 90th minute.

These guys keep playing.

Providing entertainment for this match is the Deli Pub band. They'll be banging out the licks at half-time.

All teams (players, coaches, and families) attending the SF Cup will receive $4.00 off the regular ticket price.  Bring your coupon or your program with you to the game and show it to the ticket taker for your discount.
