Seals Get Ready for 2007 Season

April 23, 2007
The Seals are busy preparing for the upcoming PDL season.  The game vs. the Fiji National team was a good pre-season match for us to get into game mode.

The major obstacle at this point is the absence of the many players committed to playing for the Seals this year.  The list is quite impressive.  The following players have announced their intent to play with the Seals this year.  Bill Robertson who captains Rassendale United grew up in the Liverpool program.  Danny Warrender, who also plays for Rassendale, was captain of Man City's reserve side only one year ago. Martin Ogstrup is a professional goalkeeper from Denmark has signed his papers but is waiting for visa approval.

More new players are coming, but we are unable to announce their names just yet.  Roster paperwork has been filed with the league, so full roster disclosure will be coming shortly!  One player is coming from Southern Nazarene University, where Luke Tyburski from last year's team played.  This player is a left footed, defender, with pace.  Another we anticipate coming is from Christian Brothers University in Ohio where he was an All American as a junior.  Also from Christian Brothers, is a player who was captain of his team as a junior. We also expect a midfielder from William and Mary, will join us in May.

Returning college players include defender Chris Rodd, and striker Carlos Diaz.  Both were starters last year. Chris played in 12 games with us, and was a solid player.  Chris plays for the USF Dons, was all WCC this past season, and voted MVP by his teammates.  Carlos is a Saint Mary's (Moraga) player who was a consistent threat with the Seals last season, as he scored 7 goals, and had 2 assists in 11 matches.  Carlos was all WCC as a Freshman with Saint Mary's.

More new players are coming. Craeg Robertson, a left footed Scotish defender with pace, is coming from Southern Nazarene university where he played with Luke Tyburski last college season. Matt Werakso, an Aussie, is at All American from Christian Brothers University who will be captain of his college team next year. His co-captain, Ryan Peel, a Canadian will join him. Ryan Overdevest is coming from William and Mary. Ryan was an academic all-American this past year. He was a teammate of Chris Rodd. He's highly regarded by Chris and the head coach at William and Mary.
