Glens and Seals Candidates Defeat USF

April 23, 2008

The San Francisco Glens houses almost all of the currently available candidates for the Seals upcoming season. The Glens were busy this weekend playing back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday the Glens faced the USF Dons in a friendly at Novato High School on a clear, cold, windy afternoon. The Glens scored their first goal less than 2 minutes into the game when Stephen Cordova served up a sitter to erstwhile goalkeeper, now striker, Kellan Wilson. Kellan slotted the ball past Eric Conner, Seals goalkeeper for 2007, as if he's been doing this all his life. Did I mention that Kellan is also the goalkeeper coach for the Seals this season? In the second half playing against the wind, the Glens scored a second goal when Carlos Diaz layed off a perfect ball to Eric Lafon of Sonoma State. Eric put it away. The Glens shutout the USF Dons. Goalkeeper Dan Benton was called upon to save the shutout when a USF striker was taken down in the box. He did exactly that....with authority.

On Sunday the Glens played their 5th game in the CPSA against Berenice, a stubborn, defensively oriented team. Aziz Dieng, a Sengalese player with French citizenship, scored the goal after tripping in the box. But Aziz didn't give up on the opportunity. Without getting up from the grass, he swung his left leg creating a shot into the net. The Glens scored a second goal a few minutes later when Stephen Cordova beat the goalkeeper on a breakaway. Nice goal Stevie Wonderful!!!

The Glens have 4 wins, 1 tie and no losses in CPSA action.
