Seals Players Star in Opening Week of College Season

September 9, 2006
The primary purpose of the Premier Development League is to provide college players the opportunity to hone their skills and gain valuable experience against quality competition during the summer months.  Looking at the results from the first week of the college season it appears that this mission was accomplished for many members of the San Francisco Seals.

Headlining the Seals performers for the first week was goalkeeper Geremy Uhl who won West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors after leading the USF Dons to two shutout victories.  Uhl has carried his shutout streak to four games through the second week of the season, making 13 saves over that span.

While Uhl was singled out for Player of the Week honors, he had a lot of help from a couple of Seals teammates in the defense.  Both Chris Rodd and Kevin Long have played all four games and provided a stellar defensive effort in front of Uhl.  As these Seals defenders were busy building a wall on one side of the bay, a couple of Seals attackers were tearing down walls across the bay.

Carlos Diaz, the Seals leading scorer this past season, didn't miss a beat as he found the net for St. Mary's in both of their games at the Wright State Adidas Cup.  Diaz was joined in the Gaels attack by Seal Matt Fitzgerald; the scrappy Fitzgerald provided a goal of his own in helping lead St. Mary's to a second-place finish.  Diaz leads the Gaels with three goals over the team's first five games.

The Seals would like to congratulate their players on a fantastic start to the 2006 College Season and wish them continued success throughout the year.
