Championship Eludes the Glens

November 13, 2006
The San Francisco Glens, a team in the California Premier Soccer Association of the San Francisco Soccer Football League, played against the Sporting of Santa Clara for the CPSA championship on Sunday, November 12th at Boxer Stadium in San Francisco.

The Glens roster includes a number of San Francisco Seals players including: Rich Halvorsen, Shani Simpson, Ben Gucciardi, John Colan, John Carson, Jovan Milojevich, Vic Litvinenko and John Hutchinson.

Sunday's game was a hard fought match that went through regulation time and two overtime periods without any goal scored by either team. The Glens played almost flawless defense giving up only one goal scoring opportunity in the 120 minutes of soccer.
The Glens had the edge on goal scoring opportunities against their opponent throughout the game. John Carson beat the keeper and rolled the ball towards the goal. A lumpy field seemed to be problem and the ball was diverted towards the post, missing a golden opportunity for the Glens to have scored in regulation time. Ben Gucciardi also sent a point blank header at full run towards the net and the Sporting keeper managed to get his hand on it, making a terrifiic game winning save.

The Glens sadly lost the match when it went to penalty kicks, 5-4.  It's a tough way to loose, but it's a part of the game.  The Glens were proud of their season, and look forward to getting some rest before getting ready for the next season, and the PDL.
