Seals U21 Program for 2008

April 12, 2008
Welcome to the 2008 Seals U21 Football Program.

For each of the last two years, the Seals U20 program has been extremely successful finishing in the top two. This year we have reformed the team as U21 to play in the Nor Cal Premier U21 league.

In addition we have scheduled five games against the NPSL teams in the region. These are highly competitive men's teams. Those of you who are U20 may play in U20 games that we may set up with the USL. These are still not definite. However, our other games represent about 15-17 matches over a 2 month period.

We will also probably do a number of exhibition matches. For example, the AYSO has asked our U21 team to play in an exhibition on May 22 and the Fiji Football Organization of Northern California has asked us to play in a special match on July 4th against the Fiji All-Stars. The Fiji community is very active in Northern California.

Here are the basic features of the program:

When: Officially training starts May 1 and ends August 11. League games start in June. We will train 3 days a week and usually play 2 games a week. (Comment: actually many U21s are training now)

Where: The program is based in San Francisco. Most training takes place at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, California. Most home games take place at the University of San Francisco, Parker & Turk Streets, in San Francisco, at 6 PM during the week. Week games are reserved for Seals games.

Coaches: The Head Coach of the Seals U21 team is Paul Aigbogun. The assistant is Shani Simpson. Paul is an A Level licensed coach. Shani is a B level licensed coach. Both have many years experience as professional coaches and professional players, and are excellent coaches.

Players: Players come mostly from the Bay Area, but we get requests from all over the United States and many from abroad. We get many requests from the UK. In 2007 four UK players were rostered on the Seals U20 program. The US players are mostly from local colleges especially USF, St. Marys, UC Berkeley, San Jose State, Contra Costa, SF State, SF City College, Napa College, etc. Over the past two years we have had 9 players who represented the United States at one time or another. In addition, 7 U20 players in 2006 and 8 U20 players in 2007 also played for the Seals. The majority of those players

Foreign Players: Foreign Players are eligible to play for the Seals U21 team. All foreign candidates should fill out the International Clearance form which can be found at the Seals website: www.oursfseals.com. A delay in getting International Clearance could cost you up to 30 days in a "no-play" period. All International Players regardless of their age or status must get clearance by their host country. Travel and accommodations are the responsibility of the foreign player. We have a player liaison, Paola Simmonds, who can assist you in your search for accommodations. Her email address is: paolafutbol@yahoo.com or ForSealsPlayers@gmail.com. In addition, if you have questions regarding legal issues or immigration, we can refer you to attorneys who can help you with your visa.

Costs: The Seals 21 program is self-funded. The team must provide (through player fees) for coaching, league fees, fields, referees, fields and miscellaneous fees (some transportation costs to games are covered). These fees fluctuate depending on the coaching staff, the leagues we play in, and extra costs that pop up. The 2008 budget is not complete at this time and an announcement regarding fees will be made as we get closer to the start of the season.

Registration: All players born after Jan 1, 1987, are eligible to play for the Seals U21 team. In order to register you should download the US Club Form, fill it out, sign it, and send it in together with a copy of your birth certificate or passport. All players who are interested in playing for the Seals U21 are invited and encouraged to submit their paperwork now.
