Seals on a Roll

June 14, 2009

The Seals teams have had some good results lately after a rocky first game.   Once John Brooks and Shani Simpson sorted out some positions on the field, things have jelled.

On Thursday night the Seals, using primarily a U20 roster, the Seals beat Marin United.  Then on Saturday, using primarily the same roster the Seals handed Placer United a 1 nil defeat then a few hours later beat the Estrellita Eagles 9 nil.  There we no field subs available for that second game.  It's not common to play two games in a day at this level and win them both.  Congratulations Seals, especially to Stevie Cordova who has notched 5 goals in his first four games.

Here's this week's schedule:
Wednesday, 7:15 PM, Game:   Seals U20 vs. Bay Oaks team at Contra Costa College.
Thursday, 7:30 PM Game v. Santa Cruz Breakers at Watsonville High School.
Saturday, 2:00 PM, Game:  Seals U20 at Gilman North Field in Berkeley California.
Sunday, 5:00 PM, Game:  Seals U23 at Gilman South Field, Berkeley California.

Roster Updates:
Josh Leon joined us, just in time, to provide a fresh player for our Sunday match in Galt.  Josh is assigned to the U23 team but will get some time with the U20s.

Tyler Barry started his first game in over 6 months after having ACL repair surgery.  However, Tyler suffered a knee injury in the first half and had to leave the field.  We don't know the severity of his injury at this time.

Derek Brown of Cal Poly SLO joins us this week.  Derek will give us added support in the backline.  Derek is still eligible for U20 play but will certainly get time on the U23 team.

Later this week, Cole Dietz, Bryan Connolly, and Evan Seale, all Westpoint cadets, will join us.  Cole is captain of the Army team and all three seniors will be important part of Army's soccer team.
