2021 Summer Hockey League Update

April 18, 2021 – 12:00 PM

Good Afternoon,

The Summer Hockey League will be cancelling its season for the second time due to the government lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We understand this continues to be a very difficult time for a lot of families financially, and we personally do not want to make that more difficult for you than it already is. Therefore as committed, the Summer Hockey League will be providing refunds to all the members that have paid for the 2021 Season, via e-transfer to the primary email address that is on file for your registered child.

These refunds will take 6-10 weeks to process, as we have over 300 members to refund. Your patience during this time is greatly appreciated. Refunds will be processed in order of players registered.

On behalf of the Summer Hockey League family, we hope you all stay safe, and continue to do what you think is best for you and your loved ones.

Thank you.

Lucas Cacciotti

Co-Owner and Vice-President of the Summer Hockey League

2021 Season Update - Summer Hockey League

December 14, 2020 – 04:35 PM

Good evening,

The Summer Hockey League has made the exciting decision to resume operations for the 2021 Season.

With this decision comes a lot of work ahead of us, to ensure your children, our volunteers, and our off-ice/on-ice officials stay safe. We will be working very closely over the next several months with the Minto Skating Centre to ensure we can provide a product on the ice in a safe and controlled environment.

Due to COVID-19, there will be a few changes happening around the league. To start, all teams will be reducing in sizes to approximately 12-14 skaters (Goalies included). All games will continue to run as previous years, which includes a 2 minute warm-up and a 45 minutes running time game on a 50-minute time slot.

In order to accommodate the current health regulations, and to continue to make it cost affordable to families with the reduction of team sizes, we will be conducting a 12-week season in 2021 which will run from April 11th, 2021 to June 27th, 2021 (Juvenile will run from April 25th, 2021 to July 18th, 2021).

With the reduction of the team sizes this season, we are going to experience a limited number of open spots available on rosters. Therefore, we highly recommend you register your own team, however, single registration will still be available.

We appreciate your patience during this unprecedent times. If we continue on this positive path, registration will be opening Friday, January 8th, 2021.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the upcoming season.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the Cacciotti's.

Lucas Cacciotti

Vice-President of the Summer Hockey League Inc.

UPDATE - Important Announcement - Summer Hockey League

April 5, 2020 – 03:16 PM

Good Afternoon,

The Summer Hockey League made a difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Season which was to start on April 19th, 2020, in order to help prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As of today, April 5th 2020, all non-essential services continue to be shutdown until further notice. As we are one of those services, it is without question that our top priority is the safety of you, your children, and your loved ones.

As most businesses are providing credits to their members for future services, we understand this is a very difficult time for a lot of families financially, and we personally do not want to make that more difficult for you than it already is. Therefore, the Summer Hockey League will be providing refunds to all the members that have paid for the 2020 Season, via e-transfer to the primary email address that is on file for your registered child. If you have provided us with a cheque and it has yet to be cashed, we will be shredding it and it will not be deposited. These refunds will take approximately 6-8 weeks to process, as we have over 500 members to refund. Your patience during this time is greatly appreciated.

I want to take a moment to thank all the front-line workers out there, which include but are not limited to; Grocery Store Employees, Police Officers, Paramedics, Physicians, Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, Hospital Clerks, Bank Tellers, Canada Post Employees, as well as our Truck and Delivery Drivers. All of these individuals and more are helping keep our country together during this time. If we did not have them, we would not be able to survive this. Thank you.

On behalf of the Summer Hockey League family, we hope you all stay safe, and follow the guidance of our medical professionals if you feel symptomatic of the COVID-19 virus. Please only leave the house for essential services. Your participation in practicing and supporting social distancing during this time is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Lucas Cacciotti

Co-Owner and Vice-President of the Summer Hockey League

Important Announcement - Summer Hockey League

March 14, 2020

Hello,

The Summer Hockey League is closely monitoring the COVID-19 events across the province, country, and the world. It is without question that over the past 10 seasons, and in the future, the Summer Hockey League’s top priority is the safety of you, your children, and your loved ones.

As of today, March 14th 2020, events and venues have been shut down for a period of 3 weeks in Ottawa, to help prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As our opening night is Sunday, April 17th 2020, the Summer Hockey League will continue to closely monitor the situation within the next 2-3 weeks to confirm the status of our league's operations this season. We will provide an update to the membership closer to the scheduled start date.

We appreciate your patience through this time. I hope you all stay safe, and follow the guidance of our medical professionals if you feel symptomatic of the COVID-19 virus.

Thank you.

2019 SHL Update

April 1, 2019 – 03:13 PM

Hello Everyone,

With SHL starting in just over a week, we are now distributing the schedules and team rosters for all divisions. ALL Volunteers must fill out the attached form and bring it on the first night. If you don't bring a form, you cannot get on the bench. All volunteers are listed just above the team roster.

To find out your son(s) and/or daughter(s) team and schedule, please follow the instructions below.

1. Go to www.summerhockeyleague.ca ,

2. Go to Teams & Rosters on the top menu bar of the website,

3. Type in the password. The password this season is ,

4. Go to the division your son(s) and/or daughter(s) play in. Remember if your son(s) and/or daughter(s) played Major Rep B last season, they moved up a division higher (For example: Major PeeWee Rep B kids are playing in the Bantam Division). Most teams have more forwards than defense, so if your child is able to help out and rotate to play defense, that would help out the balance of ice times for all players.

5. After finding your son(s) and/or daughter(s) team, click schedules on the top menu bar of the website and look for the division and team your son(s) and/or daughter(s) play for (I suggest printing off your schedule and putting in on a fridge or somewhere you frequently look).

6. We apologize in advance if your friend request was not met. We have tried every possible way and solution to make this happen for everyone.

The PeeWee Division's first 14 games have been posted on the website. Their last weekend will be posted on Monday July 15th, with the format 1st vs 2nd and 3rd vs 4th.

All of the Bantam Division's game have been posted.

Black Division's first 14 games have been posted onto the website. Their last weekend will be posted on Monday July 15th, with the format 1st vs 2nd and 3rd vs 4th.

Yellow Division's first 14 games have been posted onto the website. This division will not be playing on Monday, July 1st 2019. Teams will be playing on Sunday, July 28th 2019 instead. Their last weekend will be posted on Monday July 22nd, with the format 1st vs 2nd and 3rd vs 4th.

A few other housekeeping notices below;

  1. Jerseys will be handed out the first night so please come early.
  2. Only SHL Jerseys will be worn during SHL games. If you forget your jersey you cannot play that game.
  3. Every player needs to supply their own water bottle.
  4. SHL will supply warm-up and game pucks for the teams prior to every game. Please put the pucks back in the buck following the warm-up, and leave the bucket on the bench for the following game.
  5. SHL will supply Game sheets and time keepers. Coaches please advise the time keepers who is absent prior to the start of each game.
  6. No individual will be allowed onto the ice without a helmet for any reason. This could result in a serious injury to the individual. Timekeeper will supply a helmet if team staff do not have their own. The Summer Hockey League is not liable for any individual going onto the ice without a helmet at their own risk.
  7. Parking is free at Jim Durrell Recreational Complex, Sandy Hill Arena, Brian Kilrea Arena, and Minto Skating Centre.

Teams are finalized! Please do not email with requests to change teams as we will not be making any changes. Reminder our first week is Sunday April 7th, 2019 and our final week is Sunday July 21st, 2019.

Vice President Summer Hockey League Inc.

2019 Summer Hockey League Registration NOW OPEN!!!

December 17, 2018 – 05:11 PM

For the first time in 9 years, the SHL will host 6 divisions of hockey from Novice to Juvenile, from levels Rep B to House B. You are able to put a team in or register your child to be placed on a team as well. The league is played on Sunday nights from April to July at the rinks of Minto Skating Centre, & Jim Durrell Recreation Complex. We have added 2 new divisions of Novice and Juvenile this season.

The registration form for the 2019 SHL season is located on our website at www.summerhockeyleague.ca. The form will be available on Friday, December 14th 2018 at 12:00am. Ensure you complete all the fields correctly specifically your position, the level you are currently playing, and if you have a sibling playing at the same level as them.

If you are interested in helping out on the bench, state your name and position on the form where asked. The on-going success of SHL is a result of the individuals volunteering their time to help out on the bench. Your help is greatly appreciated. Liability forms for volunteers must be filled out before stepping onto the bench. These forms are located on the top right side of the website.

The last 5 summers, we’ve experimented with moving Major Rep B kids up a level to give them a better challenge (ex. Major PeeWee Rep B kids played in the Bantam Division). For the most part, this system has always worked so we are planning to use the same system again this season.

Summer Hockey League

The Summer Hockey League was created in the Summer of 2011 by a father and son named Frank and Lucas Cacciotti. In 2011, the league was only 4 teams originated from the Bantam House Leitrim Hawks and Metcalfe Jets teams with all games being played at Minto Arena.

In 2012, it then grew to 16 teams from Atom to Midget consisting of Rep B, House A, and House B teams. This year was the start of every season consisting of 15 fun and entertaining weeks of hockey from April to August.

This past summer, the league expanded to more rinks such as Walkley and Cantebury Arena, and jumped to 24 teams from South End, Kanata Blazers, Orleans Blues, Leitrim Hawks, and the Metcalfe Jets.

The Summer of 2014 is expected to be a very exciting one, as the goal is to reach 32 teams from players across the city, at all levels.

We hope to see you on the ice next April! More information coming soon!
