Seals Home Opener to be an Event!

May 12, 2008

The Seals open their home season this Saturday evening (May 17th) as they meet the Orange County Blue Stars.   Game time is  7:00 pm.  The match will be played at USF Negoesco Stadium.

"This match is an important one for us," said Seals Head Coach Tom Simpson.  "This is the third of four Open Cup Qualifier matches, and we need the wins from our next two home games to have a solid shot at securing a spot in the Cup."

The Seals have one win and a tie in Cup competition this season.  The next home game on May 24th against the Ventura County Fusion will be the final qualifier.

Last year the the Seals took both matches from the Blue Stars in fairly decisive fashion, defeating them 2-0, and 3-1.

The Blue Stars have realigned themselves with the United States Football Club which touts itself as "Your gateway to super elite soccer."

Orange County have had only one match so far this season, and that was a loss to the Los Angeles Legends (formerly known as the LA Storm).  They have their second match of the season this week on Wednesday night (May 14th). "Never count out the Blue Star," noted Simpson.  "They have had a great track record over the years."

This season the Seals are pleased to introduce a new format for our home games. PUNK & SOCCER halftime shows has booked some of the finest local punk bands to ever grace a beer stained bar room floor to play for most of the Seals home games.

Entertaining you at this year’s home opener will be The Agent Deadlies. The Agent Deadlies are an up and coming band from the fog banks of Pacifica, whose unique blend of ska and punk has won them fans all over the Bay Area.

"So far we've got six different bands scheduled to play at our home games," said Mike Alonso, who has been working this year with the Seals marketing team. "These are some really fun bands whose sounds are great!"  Oh, and don't worry about the lyrrics, Mike assures us.  "They know they are playing at a Jesuit school, and kids will be there!  It's just going to be a blast for everyone!"

Here is our schedule so far this year:

Saturday 5/17 7pm- Agent Deadlies
Saturday 5/24 8pm- Deli Pub
Sunday 6/15 2pm-- Black Dream
Saturday 7/12 7pm - Clarences
Sunday 7/13 2pm- Justi*fi
Friday 7/18 5pm- Jokes for feelings

But that's not all!  Each game the Seals will raffle off a $50 gift certificate for food & drink at the Pig & Whistle!  There are no restrictions, and everyone is welcome.  Located at 2801 Geary Boulevard, the Pig & Whistle is just a short ride from the field, and a great place to go after the match!
