Central Junior Basketball League

3rd - 5th Grade Boys Rules

The rules will follow the IHSAA rules with the following exceptions:

1.)   Goal height is 9 feet

2.)   Basketball size is 28.5 inches

3.)   Full court pressing is only allowed during the last full minute of the game. Either team may press during this time, BUT if a team has a lead of more than ten points the press must be dropped.

4.)   All defense will be man to man. NO ZONE DEFENSE

5.)   Defense may be picked up at the three point line, and may not trap or double team at any time. “Help” defense is permitted if a player gets beat, but once the player regains defensive position the “Help” guy must go back man to man. (Referees will use discretion)

6.)   Three point field goals will count as 3 points.

7.)   There will be no offensive isolation or one on one play permitted. Please teach team concepts.

8.)   Playing time must be distributed as equally as possible between all players. The only exceptions are if an injury occurs or disciplinary action in the form of “pine time” is required in the coach’s opinion. Every player must play at least two uninterrupted quarters. One in the first half and one in the second half. If mathematically possible every player must sit at least one quarter and no player may play more than three quarters. A player’s time may not deliberately be split into half-quarters so that they are one the floor effectively all four quarters.

9.)   The clock will run continuously throughout the game unless a foul is called by an official. Following the foul call, the clock will resume when the ball is put in play or when the ball touches the hand of the rebounding player on the final free throw shot attempt.

10.)  During the last minute of the game the clock will stop for all dead ball situations and will resume as described in rule 9 above.

11.) Each team will receive two one-minute timeouts per half.

12.) If a team only has 6 players by the time the game has begun, the opposing coach 

may choose what player on the opposing team MUST sit out one quarter.

13.) In an overtime situation, 2 minutes will be placed on the clock. Each team is

permitted to full court press(10 point rule in play) and the clock will stop on all

dead balls.

14.) The game will consist of four 7 minute quarters, with a 5 minute halftime intermission.

15.) Each team is asked to supply either a score keeper or clock keeper.

16.) A technical foul will result in a one game suspension for any player or coach. Please see the Code of Conduct for further interpretation.

17.) Any rule not covered here may be implemented by the game official as they seem fit, without the possibility of an appeal.
