6th-8th Grade Boys Rules

General Description: This division is designed to provide competitive play at a level similar to school team play.

 

1.       The league will follow current Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) basketball rules except as modified below by the league.

 

2.       The basketball goal is to be set at 10.0 feet high.

 

3.       The basketball used is a 28.5 cm basketball.

 

4.       The game will consist of (4) seven minute quarters.

 

5.       The clock will stop on all officials’ whistles/dead ball situations. Clock will resume on officials restart/live ball situations.

 

6.      The league will provide two officials per game.

 

7.      Each team has 2 one minute time outs per half.  There is no carry-over of time outs.

 

8.      Half time will consist of a five minute intermission.

 

9.      At the scheduled game time the clock will start. Game time means game time. A team may play with only four players with no penalty.

 

10.   Overtime will consist of as many two minute periods as is necessary until a victor is determined. Each team is permitted to press full court man to man during overtime, except if up by 10 or more points.

 

11.   If only six players are in attendance at the start of a game, prior to the start of the game the opposing coach may pick the player who must sit out at least one quarter.

 

12.   Players may pick up man to man defense at the half court line during the first three quarters. In the third quarter teams can pick up full court man to man as long as they are not ahead more than 15 points.

 

13.   Three point goals are permitted.

 

14.   Both man-to-man and zone defenses are allowed in the half court.

 

15.   At this level you can substitute freely, but all players must play at least 1 uninterrupted quarter and no player can play more than 3 quarters if seven or more players are available. Please try to play everyone as much as possible.

 

16.   Technical fouls should never happen, but poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated by any participants be they players or coaches. Derogatory remarks towards officials will also not be tolerated. If a technical is issued for any unsportsmanlike behavior, it will result in a one game suspension for the participant involved. Please be fully aware of the code of conduct.

 

17.   Each team will supply either a score keeper or a clock operator for their game. Try to have this arranged in advance of the game and make sure they understand how to perform the function properly.

 

18.   If any rule is not covered here or in the hand book of rules, the game officials will make a ruling or implement said rule in question without possibility of appeal.
